Reviewed 11/24/2009 | I found the hunting experience at Blackhawk to be the closest to a wild hunt of anywhere I have ever been. The owner, Greg, is a hands on, no nonsense guy, who hires the best guides who have fabulous dogs. I would recommend Blackhawk to anyone who wants to go to a club to shoot, whether it be to hunt, skeet, or any of the other shooting venues he has. Top Notch place. |

Reviewed 01/25/2009 | This is a very nice club. They do have a few technical difficulties every now and then, but what club doesn't. It is very nice to be able to go somewhere and shoot whenever you have the time and money. For me it is in a very good location. As everyone before me has stated take a buddy. Shooting should be enjoyed with others anyways. The Sporting Clays course has a great combination of close and long birds flying at all different angles. This makes for a tough shoot. Blackhawk Valley Hunting club has a very nice set up and I recommend it to anyone in the sport of shooting. |

Reviewed 12/07/2008 | This is a good shooting course. I went the day after Thanksgiving and the course could have used a little maintenance. Four throwers were not working. I will go back and give it another try. |

Reviewed 11/05/2008 | Sporting clays are now $20 for a half round, $30 for a full round. As others have said, a nice course. I've shot there a couple times by myself and that leads to a challenge as the buttons for the throwers are difficult to reach. Can't really shoot true pairs but still great practice. During the week you're likely to be the only one on the course. |

Reviewed 10/29/2008 | Myself and two other new shooters went here last weekend.
Greg helped us with everything from gun safety, loading and learning how to shoot 5 stand etc.
We went through the course and Greg had a young man that works for him (sorry I forgot his name) help us through the course.
It was a lot of fun and we will be back. Thanks again! |

Reviewed 05/27/2008 | Having moved from the O' Fallon, MO area my son and I greatly greatly miss this shooting area. It was always great to shoot and meet the people here. Plenty of walking which I needed (LOL). The courses were challenging and enjoyable. 5-stand-flurry was (is) a blast!.
Shooting is very enjoyable with Greg and this club. Your burgers were to the too!

Do bring a friend to pull for you as mentioned in other reviews unless it is a weekend day since everyone I've met that patronizes Blackhawk is very willing for you to join their game or pull for you. Bring ear plugs and exact change also. Greg (Owner) is a great guy, and he comes and goes all day most days and is very hospitable. Best shooting in St. Louis area!!! |

Reviewed 07/27/2006 | Thought it was a nice well laid out course. I like the fact that its really close to us living in St Charles. Its on the honor system which was nice so bring exact change. Its a maintained walking course and very easy walking. The machines looked well maintained and worked well. We had a great time and look foward to going back soon. |

Reviewed 05/05/2006 | Walking course. No golf carts, no wheeled carts of any kind, no employees to push buttons. No pavement, so wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty if it has rained recently. Yes, you need a friend to push buttons. Clipboards and score cards are inside the clubhouse on a table near the door. Payment is honor system, cash only, so make sure you bring several bills for exact payment. There is a lockbox with a slit in the side affixed to an awning wall across from the clubhouse, between the five stand field and the skeet field. Skeet and five stand are 7 dollars a round. 17 dollars for half course (50 targets) on sporting clays. 30 dollars for full course (100 targets). Figure a little more than an hour if it is just you shooting and no one else out there. If part of a group, it can take much longer, especially on busy weekend days when other groups are there. Half of the course is in open fields, so bring sunblock and a good hat. Water isn't a bad idea either, but during the hot months there are a couple of coolers with water; may or may not be any cups nearby though, so bring at least one water bottle. Apparantly, it is open every day, and no posted hours I'm aware of; probably daylight hours since I saw no lights anywhere. There are days it will be closed, but they are listed on bulletins posted inside the clubhouse. Every station is challenging, but fun and practical enough. Excellent mix of hunting-type shots. Owner changes target flight every week or so, sometimes completely moving machines from one spot to another. I would rate this as good of a facility as the Willows at the Grand Casino in Tunica with the exception of the walking - but its good for exercise and allows the owner to keep the cost down for the shooters. |

Reviewed 01/03/2006 | Very nice clays shooting, many challenging shots. Don't look for a lot of services, you are pretty much on your own. The manager is a very nice guy and the mix of field, woods and water shots are terrific. |

The five-stand course is also laid out well and most definitely lends itself to flurry shooting. The traps are all electronic and work best by bringing a friend along to shoot with you. |

Reviewed on or prior to 11/20/2005 | Visted Blackhawk Valley Hunting club last weekend. About an hours drive from St. Louis. Print out mapquest as it is a little difficult to find. The club offers several varieties of clays and hunting. Spent most of my time on their challanging sporting course. There are no employees to push the buttons for the clays, so make sure you take a friend with you. The coarse is laid out amongst the woods and surrounding area. There are several high houses and it is great fun. Paying for clays is on the honor system as there is no attendant to take your money. Hunting is available for members only and they offer upland, turkey, waterfowl and deer. There is a club house that can be used for special occassions or just to take a break. It is well managed and the hunting areas are some of the best I have seen. I highly recommend it to those that like a challenging clay course or for a good hunt. |
