I was in Phoenix for business and shot sporting clays. Very nice facility with helpful staff. They are willing to answer all questions and don't make you feel like an outsider.

In March, I hosted a large event (50 people) at Ben Avery. The majority of the attendees were beginners or "never-evers". The Ben Avery staff was terrific and our event went off without a hitch and we got rave reviews afterwards. Instructors were excellent and patient, the course layout (the third course - I forget its name) was appropriately set for our average experience level and Ben Avery staff did a terrific job working with our caterers to ensure the logistics were superb. A great event at a fantastic facility. Went back with a couple experienced shooters the next day and found the regular course challenging and fun. I can not speak highly enough about this facility and its staff. And a last thing - it is a bargain! For $75, all participants got 50 shells/targets, a shared loaner gun and an instructor at a ratio of about 1:6 or 1:5. Thanks Ben Avery for a great event!

I have been going to the Ben Avery facility for a number of years, now that Arizona Game and Fish are running the facility its never been better. This year (2011) the facility will be hosting the Arizona State Trap Shoot and will have shooters from all across the United States and Canada in attendance. The place just keeps getting better all the time with the expansion programs like the RV Camping for instance, they have over 100 full hook up parking spots in the camp ground just on the Skeet and Trapshooting side plus the one available on the other side of the grounds, there is a waiting list I might add. Good people, great facility and just about any kind of shooting you would care to do at reasonable prices. Give the place a try, you might like it.

I reveiwed this site in 2005. Since then the site has been operated by AZ Fish & Game and a great deal of investment made. Regular Trap/Skeet fields and competitions remain the backbone of the facility, but 5 stand is regularly run when competitions are not scheduled. There are two separate sporting clays courses (one with mobile tower), plus a six station "executive" sporting clays course ideal for beginners. International skeet can be shot by arrangement and in Dec 2009 a bunker/international/Olympic trap layout was commissioned. Professional and well run, the facility provides excellent shooting. The club house is now effective and institutional rather than relaxed and comfortable. Rental guns and good ammunition at competitive prices is available from the clubhouse.

We were in town for vacation and I had the opportunity to shoot here a couple of times. This is a great facility. Seems very well maintained. They have rental Remington and Beretta semi-auto's and you can purchase your ammo and gun carts. Price is very reasonable. I did the sporting clays course. Met up with some local folks and we had a great time. I will definitely be back. Although one reviewer thought you should get free clays a "to see" were the clays come from and their path, I think that takes away from the sport. You can see most of the throwers, but don't always know the presentation or bird size/speed, just like you would find in the field. All-in-all a great opportunity here, don't pass it up!

Well maintained facility. I only wish their website would have an honest to goodness calendar so you could see if there was a scheduled event prior to making the 35 mile trip to the range. I made my usual Thursday early PM trip only to find a registered trap shoot in progress.

I reached station 12 to find that I was out of birds. When I inquired at the office I was informed that they don't include the first pair to look at. I guess they think that you are supposed to guess where the birds are coming from and which choke tubes you should use. In addition they don't allow for breakage. So in essence you pay for the birds whether they fly or not. I travel a lot and this is the first club I have run into where this is the case. I don't know if it is naiveness or greed but this is unacceptable. Especially, now that they have raised their rates to the same as everyone else. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Amazing facility -- very helpful staff. Sporting Clays courses are excellent, with a new-shooters course, and a more-difficult "gold" course.

NOTE: Ben Avery does not (yet) have 5-stand, but it is planned for the near future.

Wow-
Huge facility maintained and manned by the Arizona fish and game people. In addition to the clays facility they have a big standard range and ranges for handguns and long guns (1000 yard range.) Inexpensive and very professional.

This is one of the finest clubs to visit or become a member of. I have worked here and learned to shoot better as well. I also took what I have learned from others and showed these wonderful secrets to alot of beginers. Its been awhile since I've been back got an itch!. But you must GO AND SEE FOR YOURSELF TO APPRECIATE. Young and old. Spend a day and shoot some targets. If you even just hit one, you'll be back to hit more. Miss everyone, see ya real soon! RJY.

This site is leased from the AZ dept of game and fish. It is well organized with efficient and friendly staff. Visitors to the trap & skeet ranges usually arrange to "pull" amongst themselves; but if the ranges are not busy staff will pull for small groups or individuals.
The sporting layout is amenable, but is challenged by the lack of towers and flat terrain; visitors do get to walk through real desert though!
The club-house stocks ammunition, has Beretta semi-auto rental guns and offers chilled soft-drinks;it also provides comfortable, if basic, refuge from the weather (cool in summer!).
I shoot at Ben Avery Clay Target Center practically once a week - even in summer.
