Rob Donina Signal Mountain, TN Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 01/09/2012 | Craig and Dawn offer a top class shooting facility to Chattanooga and the surrounding area. From the beginner through to an avid wing shooter, Montlake offers targets enjoyable to all! Craig, a first-rate shooter, extends his expertise to those inclined. He is truly passionate about his sport and very knowledgeable regarding gun fitting and everything it takes to consistently break clays. |
JOHN TURNER MAYOR, COLLEGEDALE, TN Visitor Once Reviewed 09/28/2011 | Was a volunteer at a fund raising shoot for young life. As a life long hunter/firearms enthusiast and local resident, i "discovered" a true world class facility in my own back yard. Greg and dawn were have created an unbelievable facility. I am looking forward to visiting this range often and sharpening my shooting skills. |
Chris Sanders Hixson, TN Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 06/27/2011 | Craig and Dawn have created a wonderful shooting environment at Montlake Classic Clays. A very unique sporting clay course that is changed often and maintained well. Besides having a great shooting ground Craig and Dawn are two of the nicest people you will meet.
Montlake Classic Clays is more than a range. Craig does custom gun work as well. Once you've had a gun custom fitted by Craig you'll want them all custom fitted. Does some good work on the actions of pistols too.
Head up there and see for yourself. |
Rodger Castleberry Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 06/19/2011 | Had not shot a shotgun in many years, and never heard of Sporting Clays, until I visited the Club last month (May) and was delighted to see the Renaissance created by Craig and Dawn Sheaffer, the relatively new Owners of this Club I had not seen in over 10 years, dating back to the previous Owner, Carl Poston. I said "Renaissance" for the simple reason that word aptly describes what this facility is like today in comparing it to the old days I thought were "good." I could (and will) recommend Montlake to any and all who have an interest in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, or "shooting" in general, even if only to sharpen skills prior to Bird season.
Prices are very competitive and the facilities are perfection personified. The drive up to the Club is worth it, if for the incredible scenery alone - and less than 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga. |
Leslie Cartwright soddy daisy Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 04/11/2011 | My son, Shane, joined the sale creek school skeet team. this is where they shoot at. Dawn and Craig are awesome help with this sport. Thanks guys, see you soon!! |
Steve Gregg Ooltewah, TN Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 11/21/2010 | My son has taken a HUGE interest in skeet shooting, and we are shooting 3 times a week. As a beginner, the growing pains are frequent. Although he's improving at a rapid pace, he still has those days when he gets discouraged. When those days happen, Dawn, Dave, or Craig are ALWAYS there with a comforting word or encouragement. He can walk off the field with his head hanging, and they always get him pumped back up before we leave. These folks are not only trying to make a living, but they actually take a personal interest in their customers. I drive 56 miles round trip to use this facility ... and it's worth every mile. They treat everyone like family. |
Alice Artime Harrison, TN Member More than 10 visits Reviewed 11/10/2010 | After a 2 year lay off of sporting clays Craig and Dawn are finally getting theirs off to a running start. Greg and I have been shooting at this facility for at least 20 years. We got to shoot the course yesterday and I can say it is better than ever. I recommend anyone wanting to get into shotgun sports to come and visit here. The owners are great and the people who shoot there are the best. |
Slayden Hunt Chattanooga TN Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 10/25/2010 | As a new shooter, I would recommend Montlake Classic Clays Club to anyone. The owners and staff have treated me like family from the beginning. They bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a good safe time. Not only are the owners and staff professional and welcoming, the club is very clean and the mountain is beautiful.I have been a regular customer ( 3 times a week) for several months, and I have never had a bad experience. In fact, every visit has been incredibly enjoyable. |
Lowtide Chattanooga, TN Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 09/23/2010 | You cannot find more accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable folks. Skeet and Trap available now Sporting clays open next month. Pastoral setting, comfortable and professional.
I had bead work done and a recoil pad custom fitted and the work was flawless. |
Mike Dowling Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Visitor Once Reviewed 08/31/2010 | Great Club that's out of the way and worth the trip to get there! Owners are on location and super nice people - very gracious and accommodating. If you're ever in the area, you should stop by, say hi and shoot a few rounds. You will have fun, feel welcome and appreciated. |
C Hood McDonald TN. Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 06/25/2010 | This is one awesome range. The drive up the gorge itself is gorgeous, and the range is also beautiful and outdoorsy. The range fee and supplies are very reasonable. You can bring your own eyes, ears, and ammo or Dawn will be happy to run a tab as they do sell ammo at a reasonable price just in case you run out.
Shooting lesson from Craig are a must if you are just a beginner or even for someone who just needs a refresher course to eliminate some of those bad habits you may have picked up along the way.
I've hunted and shoot all over the world and the family atmosphere and hospitality here is unsurpassed. You will not be disappointed. On my last trip out I shot 5-6 hours straight and I'd probably still be there if they had more food. Hey, a man's got the eat and it takes a lot groceries keep this machine running... :-)
Be safe and have fun! |
Dan B Ringgold, GA Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 03/10/2010 | Fair prices, excellent course, and the owners are good people, I love this place! |
Jacqueline Walls Chattanooga, TN Visitor Once Reviewed 01/31/2010 | I took my husband there for his birthday, and we had a blast! The staff bent over backwards to make sure we had all the help, advice, and comfort that we could possible want. The area is beautiful, and the coffee is fantastic. We are definitely going to go back. |
Tom Currey Nashville, TN Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 01/31/2010 | I started shooting here in High School 20 Years ago. I left Tennessee for a long time and recently came back. The owners Craig and Dawn are incredible nice people. Montlake has recently added additional shooting games. I recommend trying the new games and if you really want a challenge, try wobble scrap from the skeet stations.
I also suggest getting your shotguns custom fitted by Craig, it will make a huge difference in your performance.

King Drummond Harrison, TN Visitor Once Reviewed 12/09/2009 | This was my first time skeet shooting, and what a wonderful experience it was. Owners/staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. So nice to have a facility like this close by to the Chattanooga area. |
Rachel Sadowitz Hixson, TN Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 10/31/2009 | Craig and Dawn are amazing. Craig provided many private lessons for my 16 year old son who had never shot a shotgun. They were enthusiastic supporters of the first teen trap/skeet team, The Soddy Daisy Scholastic Clay team for high school students. What a safe and positive environment they provide for the teens. It is a clean, safe and pleasant environment, and I highly recommend you take a ride up there and shoot a few rounds. Congratulations on reopening!!!!!! Our prayers have been with you! Thank you Dawn and Craig for helping my son Sam, realize his dream of shooting skeet and trap. |
Beau Wendholt Chattanooga, TN Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 11/29/2008 | Montlake is is as good as it gets! Everyone there is always friendly and helpful. All of their facilities are great and the sporting clays course is challenging and fun. I highly recommend giving this place a try. |
Bob Peach Atlanta, Ga Visitor Once Reviewed 10/29/2008 | My sons and I visited this facility in June, 2008. We did the sporting clay circuit and absolutely enjoyed the whole experience. We also took some canned photos with the spent-shell mountain and are still laughing about it. Craig and Dawn are such wonderful hosts and delightful people. They made us feel right at home. Now I want to return with my wife...what a hoot that would be! |
Doug & Kathy Parker Dutton, Alabama Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 02/26/2008 | We have always enjoyed our visits to this range, not only because of the well thought out sporting clays presentations, but also the congenial reception we always get from Craig & Dawn. We are always made to "feel at home" when at Montlake. |

Randall Grimlsey Ringgold GA Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 12/09/2005 | This is a great place to shoot skeet or sporting clays. The Craig and Dawn are very good people and their ranges are first class all the way.
