Lenn Harley Lovettsville, Virginia Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 05/24/2010 | Wonderful and friendly local public range.
I visit and shoot skeet and/or trap several times a week and it's always worth the drive.
I've been visiting and shooting there weekly since fall of 2009.
The staff is helpful and always welcomes with a smile.
The trap machine needs to be upgraded. All else is great. |
Andrew Chouiniere Stephens City VA Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 03/16/2010 | Excellent shooting facility for all ages and skill levels. Extremely friendly staff. Challenging courses (gotta try "wobble"...it's a blast!). Best of all, it's relatively inexpensive.
My only complaint is that it's not closer to my home.
Give it a try! |
Naji New Jersey Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 08/06/2009 | Great place, very nice people, will do buss., next VA visit.. |
Daniel B. Altadena, CA Visitor Once Reviewed 02/15/2008 | A really nice facility. I shot 5-stand and the Sporting Clays course on the same day. Both were really challenging, especially the Sporting Clays because they had just changed the presentations for league play.
I attended with a friend who had never tried shotgunning sports before. We took a class together and received expert instruction on the basics. However, when we shot 5-stand, the trapper, while I'm sure well meaning, scared my new shooter friend, by telling him he was a dangerous shooter and that he'll probably be kicked off the Sporting Clays course. I thought it was rather uncalled for. I think we should be encouraging people to be better shooters and help them with their problems (in my friends case, he was a little stiff in his stance and gun mounting), rather than calling them a danger and threatening expulsion.
Our trapper on the Sporting Clays course was awesome, he was very helpful and gave my friend pointers and used the magic words often, "Just relax."
If I'm ever in the neighborhood again, I will definitely shoot there. |
Tom Phemister Reston, VA Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 01/08/2008 | Absolutely superb facility. The staff goes out of their way to make both novices and experts feel at home. The young man (and a young woman) who pull birds on the wobble course are exemplars of friendly professionals.
I do find, however, that often the clays are so durable that what I know is a dead-on shot fails to shatter the bird. Are they mixing in polymer plastic birds during my rounds? This is also true on the 5-stand range. Hmmm. . . . |
Don S Falls Church VA Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 12/21/2006 | Outstanding facility = best of breed. The physical plant is excellent, but what makes this operation truly extraordinary is the highly professional (but very accessible) staff led by Mr. Whaley. I'd like to see the operation expand - maybe add a couple more wobble trap setups. |
C.B. Stevens Farifax, VA Visitor Once Reviewed 05/11/2006 | I was completely impressed! An extensive, well-maintained, well-run facility with everything I could ask for. As a neophyte shotgun shooter, I took the "learn to shoot" class and was, again, very impressed. The knowledge and enthusiam of the instructor, his professionalism, and the concern shown for the students was top-notch. After the class I shot a round of sporting clays, and once more was totally impressed with the staff member who guided the squad through the course. This is a place where the brand-new shooter and the old-hand can both feel totally at home. All the staff are very friendly and very helpful. Highly, highly recommended! |
Van Lurton McLean, VA Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed on or prior to 11/20/2005 | This is a good regional shooting center with an archery range in the basement. They have 3 Skeet Fields, 2 Trap fields, a 5-Stand complex, a Wobble Trap complex, and a six-acre Sporting Clays Course with a variety of terrains including both wooded and open field target presentations. The rates are reasonable and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They also have an FFL and are willing to receive guns from other FFL dealers. They also have a professional instruction for the beginner or the advanced shooter. |
Adam Clater Alexandria, VA Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed on or prior to 11/20/2005 | Bull Run has Wobble Trap, Trap, Skeet, 5 Stand and Sporting Clays. They have large lights, so their last round usually starts @ 8pm. There's no better place to go after work to get in a few rounds. As a beginner, their staff was very helpful in showing me what needed to be done. This facility is only a few minutes from the NRA national HQ, and as such the NRA Staff team has practices here on Tuesday evenings. This facility is a Fairfax County Park, and is top notch. Highly recommended. It can be a bit of a wait on the weekends, but I've had no problems going after work. |
