Chabot used to be a premier facility for trap shooting in the SF East Bay Area, but a series of squabbles between trap shooters and the general membership resulted in the trap boys being driven out (after attempting to take control of the club). In a move of questionable business smarts, the management decided to render the trap facility nearly extinct. There is but one or two trap pads now operating. The skeet field was torn down (shot was falling on other ranges) and the planned sporting clays range did not materialize. Now Chabot is a close but expensive place to go shoot for people in the Fremont-Hayward-Castro Valley-San Leandro-San Lorenzo-Oakland area, but it has nothing of the community spirit it once had. The club is financially more secure despite closing most of the trap operation.

A single Trap Range open Sat & Sun 10-4. Almost never a wait. (the majority of the club is dedicated to the Rifle and pistol ranges, open fri-mon.)

The range is located deep inside the Anthony Chabot park. Because roads to the park are very twisty, it takes a little longer to get here than you'd think. Tickets for the trap range are purchased 300 yards down the hill at the rifle range, so stop there on your way to the range.

Adjacent to the trap range there is a building with a large open room with chairs (and a restroom) where you can get out of the weather. Also, there are a few vending machines down by the rifle range, but otherwise the nearest food is 25 minutes away, outside the park.

On the whole its nothing fancy, but it is a clean, efficiently run little trap set-up plopped right in the center of an enormous East Bay Regional park.
