Gary Proctor Bear, Delaware Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 08/31/2010 | This range has become my "home turf" over the last year. While they no longer offer sporting clays (what a loss), they offer skeet, trap, doubles, wobble, and 5-stand. The people are very nice and the prices are great @ $3.00 a round ($7.00 for 5 stand). The range also has a semi - indoor pistol / short range rifle range. While the amenities are minimal, they throw a very consistent bird, with a reasonably challenging 5 stand. My only complaint is that it is a shame that this location refuses to strive for anything more than status quo as it is living off the government teat. |
Jewell Osterholm MD radnor pa Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 08/01/2010 | Wonderful homelike place to shoot The staff is helpful, considerate and have coached me to an improved score.. Keep up the good work!! PS Last winter we were shooting in spite of the snowdrifts. My hat is off to Bob Lloyd -the ultimate trap master. |
bob kuczynski va beach, va Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 05/29/2010 | Ommelanden range continues to shine. Driving from VA to Connecticut on a regular basis, I've made this place my official half way rest stop to have lunch and shoot with the locals. Old bob the puller is a living icon to the sport. Make sure you meet him and listen to some of his stories. keep up the good work guys! |
Don Dzielak Bear, De. Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 03/16/2010 | The staff is always friendly and helpful. My son took the Hunter Education coarse and loved it. Keep up the good work !!! |
Rob Middletown Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 01/31/2010 | Fun place to shoot. I have a 1.5 yrs to go before my little buddy goes to Hunters safety there. I would love to see the ranges increased on the rifle range. I would be willing to pay more for increased services. I would like to see a 200yd rifle range added, but with the cut backs already in place, I can see that it is only a dream. |

Reviewed 12/17/2009 | I have been going to Ommalanden since it opened in the early 80's and since the Days of the first ranger master George Long (Great Guy) a lot has changed over the 28 years since its opening. however what has never changed is the commitment to hunter education and gun safety. i have had the please of seeing so many fathers bring their children thru our facility and have been taught proper gun safety and handling technique. i for one have been a proud member of the staff for 10 years, and have enjoyed the shooting public (most of the time)come to see us and bringing there families i have especially enjoyed the sporting clays and 5 stand during the time that they were open hoping that someday we can (re-open the sporting clays) how ever if you come see me on Sundays i will give you one hell of a presentation on the 5-stand (just ask for level 4 its not on the card). please come see us and bring your families shooting sports are a great family entertainment and worth your time in a clean well run safe and pleasant environment. |
Steven Amalfitano Wilmington Delaware Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 07/09/2009 | As a life long shooter and Wilmington resident this has been my "home range" for quite some time. Although this facility is still a very adequate shooting range and destination there have been changes recently that diminish the overall experience at this establishment.
I hope some state official reads this and realizes they are allowing a great shooting complex to dwindle into oblivion.
The hours at this range have always been questionable in terms of the early closing time, and the even earlier signup cutoff - but that has been further reduced to its current 3:00 last sign up (shooting over by 3:30) deadline. Hey -- its summer, and light till around 8:00 -- please hire some people that don't mind working till 5 or 6 if that's what it takes. Additionally - they are now only open Wednesdays (although late on Wednesdays) - and Friday-Sunday. Also - they have closed the sporting clay area for good, and stopped lending shotguns and selling ammo.
Despite all this however, the rifle/pistol houses, skeet, trap, wobble, 5 stand, and archery ranges still operate within these hours and you can't beat the price, even if they are unheated and manual target setup/retrieval lanes. The staff and clientele are very friendly and enjoy discussing and advising on shooting styles and gear. I am glad Ommelanden Range is near me, and know its a great value, but I'd happily pay more, and/or offer my time and labor, to restore this place to its original full featured operation and increase the operating hours. |
John DeGroat Carlisle, PA Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 06/06/2009 | This used to be a great place for Clays, but over time that part of Ommalanden was shut down, probably for budget reasons. As a consequence some top shooters quit going there. The skeet and wobble trap, which I like, still operate along with five sand and trap. Delaware would have been better off raising the fees to make a profit rather than letting this facility go down hill. |
bob kuczynski va beach va Visitor Once Reviewed 05/07/2009 | What a diverse friendly crowd of shooters and what a nice bunch of professional staff...all in one place! Clean, AFFORDABLE, and well organized. This will be a destination range for me, for years to come. |
Enrique Reyes Philadelphia, PA Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 09/12/2008 | This place is pretty cool! I'm a beginner and this range is only 40 minutes away from Philadelphia!
A round of skeet is like 3 bucks! |
Brian Wilmington, DE Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 09/02/2008 | Great range. Includes a semi-indoor rifle and pistol range as well as an archery range which I did not see mentioned.
The last review is inaccurate as Ommelanden no longer sells ammunition nor does it loan out guns. I believe this was effective 1/1/08, but by July 2008, this was true. |
antonio r. Diana norriston pa Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 05/21/2007 | This is the best place to go w/friends and have a good shoot'n time!!!! |
Anthony Philly, PA Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 04/16/2006 | This place is one of the best places to go and shoot trap, skeet or sporting clays. The prices, as stated are exceptional and they have a lot of very well informed and helpful staff.
I would recommend this to all who are considering going. IT is definitely worth the trip from Philly if you are looking for a good place to shoot the shottie. |

Pete Imperiale Lumberton NJ Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed on or prior to 11/20/2005 | Ommelanden Range started the sporting clays in the area along time ago. The constantly change the course and if you ask they will throw a tuff course if you are up to it. Towers, rabbits and a few cooking targets over the trees. The trappers there are the best!!!! |
Angelo C philadelphia, PA Visitor Once Reviewed on or prior to 11/20/2005 | Took a ride to this range after calling a bunch of different ones to find someone who lent/rented shotguns. The initial purpose of this trip was to teach my friend how to handle a shot-gun. They are very friendly and extremely helpfully. Having never shot skeet / trap on a "professional" range, I was a little hesitant. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty experience with shooting, safety & procedure, but always on private land. The employees were kind enough to show us the ropes and the other customers do a lot to make one feel comfortable. This public range is open every day of the week except Monday, they close at 3:30pm. In addition to "regular" trap and sheet they have more specialized toward hunting shotgun shooting chalanges.....Rabbit simulation is real cool.
There is also a 50 meter Pistol / Rifle range that I personally did not use so I won't speak of it's quality other than to say the building it is in looks well built. There is a few different Archery ranges, 2D & 3D. This place also is a Delaware Hunter's safety course center. There was a class in progress today while I was there in the early after noon.
I didn't anticipate on being this long winded and normally wouldn't even post anything to a "Comments / Rating" section of a web site. However I would have found this type of write up of a range very helpful in trying to choose a place to go.
This place was worth the 40 minute trip from philly down rt 95 and was cheap as shit! $2.50/ round of trap and sheet (25 shots) and if you don't bring your own ammo it's $5.50/box 25
Well have a nice day! |
