Don Fort Lauderdale Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 10/27/2011 | I have been shooting rifles and pistols at Markham Park on a weekly basis for the past 3 years; I also compete in shooting matches across the eastern US. The Markham Park Target Range is one of the best around. The range officers are friendly, knowledgeable and, most of all, they keep the shooters SAFE. They offer advice to those who ask, and alert shooters to dangerous actions when they see them. If you arrive with a loaded gun, which happens with some frequency, you go home. Considering that the shooters vary from beginners to law enforcement personnel, I feel the range officers do an excellent job. The Markham Park Target Range is a facility for which the County can be proud. |
Randall tamarac, florida Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 07/09/2011 | I think the Markham park shooting range is very poor. I go because its the only place where I can do 100 yard shooting. The staff are abusive and rude. They have quite a few unnecessary rules. You have to ask permission for everything you do. They won't even let you pack, unpack your guns. The metal target holders are old and rusty, I cut myself on them on more than one occasion. On the positive side, they do have 100 yard shooting, very nice shooting benches that indoor ranges don't have and the cost is lower than any of the indoor ranges. You just have to go there being mentally prepared to deal with the range officer abuse, stupid rules and the primitive system they have. Absurd rule examples are: No rapid fire, no human or animal target images, only 3 guns allowed (eg. 4 pistols not allowed), shotguns with pistol grips or less than 28" not allowed. I could go on but you get the idea. When I asked about the shotgun restriction, I was told that someone with a shotgun shorter than 28" was more likely to point it at somebody??? Say huh? By that logic, pistols should be prohibited. See what I mean. |
Frank Tamarac Fl Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 12/18/2010 | 15 years ago I was a member of the Skeet Club, but family and life led me to give up my "Hobby".
Getting an Over Under Shot gun for my birthday got me back shooting.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST FIELDS IN THE COUNTRY AND IT'S IN OUR BACK YARD !
Most of all it's inexpensive and EVERYBODY is friendly and eager to help.
If you have a 100.00 Sears shotgun you can hit as many targets as the guy next to you with the 10K Perazzi. (And they guy with the Perazzi will be the guy to help you )
Going to join back up !

Richard Crawford-Conway Norderstedt, Germany Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 08/15/2010 | I visit this club when I come in from Germany to visit my mother in Boca Raton. First of all, it is an absolutely wonderful club, inside of an very interesting sports park. Where else can you watch $5,000 model airplanes race, jet ski fanatics practice their water acrobatics and mountain bike competitions on the way to the range?! Once at the shooting range, most disciplines, including the most difficult 5 stand that I have ever seen, are represented. The fees are extremely reasonable and the range personnel are some of the most professional and safety conscious I have met, but with that elusive talent of not ruining the fun while being so!! The ranges in Europe, especially Italy, are wonderful, but I always daydream of shooting over the water at Markham, with those beautiful pink clouds floating over the ocean in the distance. Go there and see! |
Larry Diamond Coventry, CT Visitor Once Reviewed 02/23/2010 | A fantastic park. An excellent 100 target course. Shoots are by appointment and only offered a few days per week: call in advance to set up. A Range Officer in a utility cart accompanies your group (you can ride in the cart or store your gear there). The RO pulls targets, scores, provides pointers, and keeps things safe. He/she works hard; be generous. The course is a blend of presentations of various degrees of challenge. All are superb. On our day the course was configured in 14 stations around a mile loop. It is in a wooded section of the Everglades and has both shaded and wide open stations. Some are over water. Do not pass this up. Highly recommended. |
Alessandro Miramar, Fl Visitor 6-10 Visits Reviewed 05/08/2008 | Wonderful place for all. I definitely recommend it. It has a pistol and rifle range along with a wonderful facility for trap and skeet shooting. It is located inside of a county park which has facilities for mountain biking, bar-b-cuing, etc.. I will always come back. |
Greg Markkanen Hancock MI Visitor Once Reviewed 06/29/2006 | A great range! My afternoon was complete through the friendly staff and even one of the Board members approach. Rules and regs were explained in a professional manner and posted around the club. The clubhouse was open, clean and air conditioned as well. Mr. Markham in leaving this wonderful piece of property will help preserve shooting sports in South Florida for everyone....I fully recommend this club to anyone visiting the area. |
Larry Blair Newtown, PA Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed on or prior to 11/20/2005 | The facility is an easy 20-30 minute drive from the beach at Fort Lauderdale. It is easy to find and professionally run. The patrons and employees that I met were very freindly and helpful. There are four trap ranges that double as skeet ranges. There is also a mile long sporting clays course which I did not see or walk, although, it is supposed to have been designed by a world class sporting clays champion. There is also a pistol range. I do not know if there is a rifle range. I shout 8 rounds of trap on two different days. The birds are thrown out over a small lake. The back ground beyond the lake is trees. It was an enjoyable experience. I would go back there again. They have registered ATA shoots. |
