I decided to give the Cherokee Rose a try this past weekend. I've noticed the Cupid Comeback registered shoot coming up in two weeks and thought it would be nice to give a registered shoot I try, but I didn't want to shoot it without ever visiting the facility and knowing sort of what to expect, the layout, how to get there, etc. It's about an hour and 15 minutes or so from Marietta/Powder Springs, not too bad of a drive. Directions on the website were very good. We arrived just before 1:00 and I could hear that people were already out shooting. I met Casey as she was giving some instruction in the arena, she came up, signed me in and basically turned me loose and we decided we would settle up after I shot. Cool! I asked for a puller, but was sort of surprised to hear that there really wasn't one, but I could catch up to the group in front of me and tag along. I met Dan, Jason, and Devan and tagged along. Nice group of guys good company.

Ok, enough of the intro, I'll get down to the review. I don't have much of a background to gauge this against. I've shot at two other places, Etowah Valley in Dawsonville and Schrader's Bridgetown manor in Maryland. Nicer than Dawsonville, but a little more expensive, on par with Schrader's. The course was immaculately kept and clean. Neat in appearance and landscaping. The traps were clearly well kept and functioned without any incident other than the occasional broken bird. The stations were clearly marked with big bright orange and blue numbers. Station / shooting windows were nice, racks to hold the guns were all in good shape. Nice benches to sit and rest on. Just wow super nice! Cart paths were nice and neat and graveled. Hmm, things that were different to me, maybe they're normal, I don't know. There were 10 stations of 10 shots. I like to mix it up a little more, but this was fine, no complaints. I guess it gives you more of a chance to practice at stations you're not doing so well on...but if you don't hit the rabbits so well, well, there's more of them to bring you down. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with this. I'm sure my personal preference is different than others. I had hoped to shoot alone and set the puller up for delay. Well, you don't take the puller along with you from station to station like Etowah, or at least I don't think you do. I think there's one at each station already. I never used it since someone else pulled for me, so I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a delay, so if you're planning on going by yourself, you might reconsider and bring someone else along. My puller is on family medical leave as we just had a new baby. Oh, with that said, there's shopping fairly close if you want to bring the misses and she doesn't want to shoot or hang around. Although, if it were warmer, the front deck looked really inviting.

Would I go again? You betcha! I hope to give some of the registered shoots a try down there, so maybe I'll see you there.
Nice place, A+

Also, the carts are $15.00 not 430.

One of the nicest shooting clubs I've visited. We showed up on a day that they were having a big shoot, and Casey went out of her way to see that we got to shoot and was super accommodating. The grounds are beautiful, and they have done a great job of leaving the terrain natural and keeping as many trees as possible. 1st Class operation. We look forward to going back.

Cherokee Rose is a great course for young sporting clay shooters. The is challenging but not so much that it is impossible.

First off, we might talk about Casey's courses, she has set up an easier course, and a Master type course. So on her grounds you can do your own picking of "toughness". Casey is a great gal, and beautiful as well, but her great achievement is her ability to teach shooting. Her instruction is so defining of your errors, she not only helps, but recognizing your weakness, & helps you track them for you so you recognize what you are doing wrong.
Casey Atkinson's help is ever helpful and willing to make your stay a wonderful experience...Try it you'll like it.

I along with 3 of my friends shot sporting clays here in July. We found the facilities to be one of the best we have shot so far. Staff was very helpful and polite. We enjoyed ourselves so much that I have scheduled our church tournament here. Again the staff made the setting up of our tourney easy and was very patient and answered all of my questions. This place is very clean and layed out well which makes for a very relaxed shoot. Recommend highly!

I went this past weekend with two friends. Everyone there (workers and members) were very friendly. When I mentioned that this was our first time, one of the members told us to load up the golf cart and follow him to the first station. He showed us how everything worked and gave us some pointers as well as course layout information. The course was great. It had some very challenging shots and some easier shots which made my buddy happy since he only scored a 22. I was impressed with the course and plan to return.

My 16 year old son and I visited Cherokee Rose for the first time. I am use to Trap Shooting and recently introduced my son to Trap, and we both took our first turn at 5 Stand recently. We are looking for a club to join and shoot at regularly so we tried Cherokee Rose. We met Casey and Bert, both nice and polite people. We asked if Trap was available and we were told no. We then asked about 5 Stand and they offered their Sporting Clay Course as an alternative. I explained that neither of us had ever shot Sporting Clays and didn't know anything about and tried to direct the conversation back to 5 Stand. In turn it was suggested that we try the harder Sporting Clays Course instead of 5 Stand. We ended up shooting the other Sporting Clays Course. Now you have to understand that we knew nothing about Sporting Clays, we had never been to this club before and we stated that to the folks behind the desk. Their response? Follow the road to the right of the sign, start at #10 or #1 - Come back when you are done. Well, we are done and we are done! Like I said the people were very polite - we ended up shooting 60 rounds and paying for 100 - neither of us knew that we were supposed to do the "Report Doubles" twice in each order. Well, we did find that out as we were finishing up the 9th station and one of the club members told us. Now that I know what the "2" means - next time I see it I'll know what we are supposed to do. Anyway - more clubs to visit while my son and I look for one to join, but I don't see us going back to Cherokee Rose.

Nice shooting course.
The course offered a variety of shooting situations that varied from simple to complex, some with water shots.
Gun rentals and ammunition are available at the front desk.
The driving directions are on target and we had no problems finding the location.

Located just 7 miles (about a 10 minute drive) from the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Cherokee Rose Sporting Resort is a great place to shoot.

My son in-law and I shot the 12 station sporting clays course in March 2005. Targets offered a wide variety of shots, above, level and below the shooter.

Each station had two menus, one for recreational type shooting, the other for competitional type shooting. My son in-law (new to sporting clays) was shooting a pump 870 3.5" magnum turkey gun and hit enough targets to make him happy with both the gun and his shooting.

Friendly staff and clean grounds make for a very enjoyable place to shoot.

I regret that we have been going to the NASCAR races in Atlanta for years and until this year not taken time to shoot at Cherokee Rose.

Cherokee Rose is an excellent facility and staff is wonderful. I had never been sporting clay shooting before and the folks there were very generous helping me get situated. When I said this was my first outing, two members of the club graciously invited me to join them on their weekly friendly competition. I did okay thanks to their instruction. The course was well kept and was very challenging. I'm looking forward to returning and trying again.
