Frank Cincotta Charlotte, NC Visitor Once Reviewed 01/17/2012 | Had a great day shooting at Fairview Meadow. The natural beauty and friendliness of the staff made our experience thoroughly enjoyable. |
Pete Faherty Charlotte Visitor Once Reviewed 02/07/2011 | Went for the first time two weeks ago. Only shot the 5 stand wobbler as my time was limited but had a great time.
Andy is a great guy and helpful with tips. Look forward to shooting there again. Very laid back atmosphere. |
Jeff Hensel Charlotte, N.C. Visitor Once Reviewed 01/03/2011 | I called and made an appointment with Andy for Friday, 12/1/10. I showed up as scheduled with a party of five, 2 of whom have not shot before. Andy helped us through the five stand and then we probably waited about 3o minutes before Chris took us through the woods course. Chris was very helpful and tailored the course to suit our party. The kids and I really enjoyed the afternoon. Thanks!! |
David Gooden Matthews, NC Visitor Once Reviewed 12/18/2010 | The folks were friendly and accommodating on a windy Sunday afternoon. I'll be back after Christmas to use more of the facilities with our new gun! |

Reviewed 11/03/2010 | We would like to take this opportunity to let everybody know that this facility is under new management. We still have the 5 stand with wobble machine and the 10 station wood course. We have all new equipment. Our grand opening is November 6th. |

Reviewed 10/17/2010 | I am sorry to say that yesterday, Saturday October 16, 2010 was the last day of operation for Fairview Shooting Preserve. On behalf of Curtis Meggs, my son Matt, and me, I want to thank everyone over the years, and especially over the past 2 years, for making FSP such a fun place to spend the weekend. I have made a lot of friends and a lot of acquaintances while I managed the facility and its a shame that it had to come to an end. I can't go into detail here about the sudden closure but I can assure its not what we wanted to do and it's not what YOU wanted either. Again, it's a shame. If you have my mobile please keep in touch when you can or just send a text to say hi. I hope the regulars find a new facility that you enjoy as much as you did ours. Take care, and remember....lead those birds if you want to bust em'! Take care, Mike |
Jeremy Efird Oakboro, NC Visitor Once Reviewed 09/27/2010 | I called Mike on Wednesday and confirmed that Saturday would be a good day to bring several family members to his facility. We arrived about 9:15 and were greeted by our trapper for the day who suggested we try the 5 stand wobble trap along with another group of shooters. This was the first clay target shooting experience other than back yard gatherings for my wife, mom, and sister. My cousin, brother in law and myself have been shooting for years, but mostly at birds so this proved to be a challenge for us as well. Our trapper was really good at being patient with the rookies and mixing up the shots to challenge the more experienced shooters. We never got past the 5 stand due to breaking in the rookies, but we are already planning to visit again and try out the woods course and tower. There is a nice shelter that we ate a picnic lunch under prior to leaving. The price is right, the drive from home is short, and the atmosphere is pure country. Give this place a try and you will throw away the golf clubs and go shooting instead. |
Steven Willis Huntersville, NC Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 08/13/2010 | I gave Fairview a second chance last weekend after my first unsatisfactory visit last fall (see review below). This time I took my son-in-law who was on leave from the Army and we had a great time!
We first shot the woodland course which because it was our first time and didn't get any show birds proved to be a bit challenging. I'd say it was 6/10 on the difficulty scale but with few long shots. I was using my usual LM choke and should have switched to an IC or even SK choke.
Our second round was on the "tower" course. This course has 25 stations grouped around a tower where all the traps are located. The course is on a flat field and each station got more difficult as we progressed through the stations. Difficulty I'd say was 4/10. It was quite unique and both my SIL and I enjoyed it a lot. If you don't want to walk, this is the course for you! I used an IC choke to start but by the end I think an LM or MOD or maybe even IM would have worked better on some presentations.
The facilities are still quite spartan but this visit there was a second person working there and we were greeted promptly upon arrival. If there is a rest room (or even a porta-potty) I didn't see it. Maybe one is there somewhere. The price was quite reasonable at $60 total for two of us shooting two courses (200 birds total).
Overall, I had a much better experience than my first time and will likely be back.

Jason Torres Harrisburg NC Visitor Once Reviewed 07/19/2010 | I visited Fairview Shooting Preserve over the weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. Not being familiar with the sporting clays or really any type of shotgunning sport, I was hesitant to try. Mike (the owner) made me feel at ease and explained everything to me. He gave me a tour of the facilities (which is very impressive). I will definitely be back on a regular basis to improve my skills as a shooter. It is a great facility for the beginner or seasons shooter. Thanks Mike!! |
Michelle Davis Broadway Visitor Once Reviewed 07/12/2010 | I would have to say that myself, associates, and customers had a fantastic first experience clay shooting. I loved the location and also the hospitality of the owner mike, whom was just as excited as we were when the target was shot. He truly made everyone feel welcomed and also added fun to the experience. My customer stated in an email the next day ("I dont know what you spent on that trip, but was the most fun Ive had in a very long time"). So thanks mike and I will most certainly be back.. |
Scott Thomas Charlotte, NC Member More than 10 visits Reviewed 05/24/2010 | I have shot sporting clays in eight states and nearly 30 facilities across NC. This is one of the best facilities I have seen and it's one of my favorites.
It's only 25 minutes from downtown/uptown Charlotte and has a tremendous amount of options for shotgunning. They have a nice wobble trap and a multi-stage tower trap, along with a 5-8 stand sporting clays course. The course is well run and maintained and sufficiently challenging. The overall atmosphere is low key.
The managers and employees are gracious and incredibly helpful with everything from pulling clays to giving superb shooting tips and advice. Their prices are also about the lowest you will find in the region. I finally joined as a member for 2009-2010 and cannot say enough good things about the facility. |

Reviewed 10/15/2009 | Mr. Willis:
I truely hate to hear about your first experience at Fairview Shooting Preserve. We have tried to get the directions to the facility changed on the web site and I will continue to work on this. (fixed)
Also, we are in the process of upgrading the facility and you caught us in that transition period. We demolished the old club house and we were fortunate to have a member give us one of his construction trailers to use while we finalize our plans for our new club house.
I will take note of your suggestions to have some literature available should folks drive up and we are on the courses and not immediately available. It is difficult to plan staffing needs in this business as one Saturday you may be loaded up all day and the next Saturday maybe have a couple of shooters all day.
Regardless of this, I hope you will give us another try. As you noted we are a rural facility but I believe this adds to our appeal. In one spot on the course you can actually see the buildings in Uptown Charlotte so in reality we are not far away from most folks but we do have that country feel (and appeal). All of our traps are manual so you have a trapper with you during your entire visit and most folks who visit us once or are regular customers really like that about us. You can certainly go to facilities that are more modern than ours but based on the feedback I get most folks seem to have a more enjoyable shoot with us.
Give us a another try, come shoot the woods, tower, 5-stand or a combination or all three, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Steven Willis Huntersville, NC Visitor Once Reviewed 10/09/2009 | I wanted to try Fairview just for something new and I'm always eager to help support new facilities. The map on the site is wrong and the directions are contradictory. Actually, the facility is just west of Hwy 601. But other than driving about 5 miles out of the way and turning around, it wasn't too hard to find. But for me it's an hour drive and when I showed up I didn't find much there.
This facility is *VERY* rustic with one small, old trailer and a pole barn. I never saw anyone though I could hear shooting so someone was on the course. I waited around about 15 minutes but decided I had wasted enough time that day and decided to go somewhere else.
I hate to give a negative review--the trappers might be fine fellows and the course might be good, but I wouldn't recommend Fairview for a casual first-time drop-in. If you want to give them a try definitely call first and make sure you know what kind of schedule they are running or take a bunch of your buddies.
If I may make a suggestion: If it's not feasible to have someone there to greet people (perhaps understandable for a rural facility like this), then post an easily visible board stating when the last round started and when the expected completion time will be. If I had known that the round underway might be done in say 20 minutes, I probably would have hung around. Also, some type of display or handouts describing the course and the presentations would have given me something to think about while waiting rather than just standing around wondering.
I'm usually a patient and easy-to-please fellow but I have limits. Not sure I'll be back since there are better facilities within reasonable driving distance that are better suited for solo shooters like me. |
Brian Threatt Heath Springs Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 06/29/2009 | I have been the the range on a few of occasions and I am very impressed with the guys that run it. We have a young shooter with us that is very responsible and they make him feel as he is equal to every person out there. They have went out of there way to help him as much as possible. He loves to go and we love having him with us. We cant wait to return. Keep up the good work and thanks for making a 10 year old feel like one of the guys! |
Daniel Brewton Charlotte, NC Visitor More than 10 visits Reviewed 06/01/2009 | I just started shooting this year with one of my best friends and we both have been going 3-4 times per month since March. We have also tried several other "clubs" in the area and we keep coming back to Fairview. If you want a relaxed atmosphere the feel of the country and some skilled shooting courses this is the place to go. Mike and Curtis (trappers) are attentive and often provide guidance when asked. I have shot with both expert and beginner shooters and in both instances I never felt intimidated rather quite the opposite. The only downside to Fairview is that is can be difficult to find the first time out but after your first trip you wont forget and you will be back. |
Joshua Charlotte NC Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 05/10/2009 | My friends and I have been out here twice now, and after having another great day out there today I wanted to submit a review. On our first visit we only did the woods course, definitely a good time. Today we did both courses and absolutely loved it.
We will definitely be going back out here again. The people are very nice and helpful, so you should enjoy this if you are new to shooting or someone who has been doing it forever. The cost seems reasonable, though I am not yet convinced that becoming a member has any true benefits unless you plan to shoot a heck of a lot. Lastly, the rules help promote safety, which I am a pretty serious about, so I like this.
Overall, I highly recommend spending an afternoon out here. |
Christina Mint Hill, NC Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 05/10/2009 | This was our 2nd visit out there and we had a great time. There were 4 of us and we spent 2 1/2 hours shooting the tower course and the woods course. Both are equally challenging and equally fun. Curtis was our trapper and he was very helpful in explaining what we were shooting at and giving tips along the way. I definitely recommend this for practicing shooting or just a great day out. We will definitely be returning. |
derrick helms Indian trail nc Visitor Once Reviewed 04/29/2009 | I went this past Saturday and shot both courses with Mike. He was a great guy to be around and so were the others. Both courses were challenging in their own way but like others say it is hard to choose a favorite. All of the guys were friendly and made me feel welcome to be there. I will be back with more friends soon. |
Wes Lancaster S.C Visitor 2-5 Visits Reviewed 04/16/2009 | Me and my 10 yr old son and some friends and family just recently found this location and we loved it. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the facility is very nice. In my opinion this is a great place to take kids to teach them to be responsible with guns and teach them to love the outdoors. Thanks to everyone for all your help and we cant wait to get back out shooting. |

Reviewed 03/20/2009 | Things are going well out at Fairview Shooting Preserve. If the weather would cooperate on the weekends we would be doing a lot more shooting.
We have had several first timers this spring coming down from Kannapolis, Charlotte, and Matthews. These folks didn't realize that we were here and were happy to find a facility so close to their towns. Everyone who has shot with us has really enjoyed the experience and many have been back since their first visit. Both the tower course (25 stations) and the woods course (10 stations) seem to be equally challenging and fun. Folks say they can't really pick a favorite because they enjoy both courses.
Our 3-D archery range should be up and ready to go in April so if you are an archer too come on out and give our course a try.
We are a relaxed bunch of guys who enjoys being around hunters and shooters and bird dogs, and we would love to pull a round for you and your friends and family soon. Come for a visit. I know you will be pleased to find a facility so close to home that is fun to shoot.

Joseph Wilson Midland, NC Member I work there Reviewed 02/16/2009 | The club has recently changed management and is undergoing some significant changes, I apologize the phones have been down for some time now due to county road work but there will soon be an answering service at the location or you can call Mike Lunsford @704-309-5591. Wayne Zitsch Charlotte, NC Visitor Once Reviewed 04/11/2007 | My brother, father and I recently went to this location and had a very good time. We went on Friday, which are off hours, so we had to make an appointment (not a problem to do so). The owner had a walking sporting clays and a tower sporting clays. The tower sporting clays had the old manual style traps that required a trapper to load the clays, I can see this being a down side to some people but the hospitality and patience of the owner and trappers more than made up for the lack of technology. The key selling point for me is the location is 20 minutes from south Charlotte. I plan to return to this location within a few weekends. |
