Michael D. New Orleans, LA Visitor Once Reviewed 11/15/2011 | Had an overall good experience at High Point. I was excited to find a sporting clays location within easy drive of New Orleans, the others are all on the north shore.
The course itself is very nice, well laid out, and interesting. The second half in particular is in a gorgeous large field with a pond and some very creative presentations. The stands and equipment are in the usual state of disrepair for these type of places. Approximately 10% of the throwers didn't work or ran out of clays. This is fairly common in my experience, and certainly didn't prevent us from having a good time. We did not shoot the 5-stand, but it looked nice. We were told that it is set up for quite a challenge.
Calling the phone number listed is next to useless. The gentleman who answered was apparently not at the grounds, and the two times I called was gruff and unhelpful. I had to pry basic information out of him. The folks at the clubhouse were significantly better. They were not particularly welcoming when we first walked in, but I've seen that before and they warmed up once we got down to the business of paperwork and money. For non-members it was $45 for a round of 50, ammo included. I'd prefer to bring my own, but if you account for 2 boxes of shells, that's a decent price.
Overall if shooting fun clays is what you're looking for, High Point shooting grounds is worth it and really has a nice course. Just be persistent with the people and you'll end up enjoying yourself quite a bit. |
