I have passed the entrance to this club for many years, while visiting my family. I kept telling myself that some day I would bring a shotgun to shoot there and I am so glad that I finally did in October! What a great club with friendly people like Charley. I have shot skeet and Sporting Clays all over the country and I can’t wait to shoot skeet at Bend of the River again! Charley, thank you for your hospitality and I’ll see you again soon.

The Bend is like home away from home. All need to come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and visit with Charlie and Mary Jane and Nancy, they are the greatest.

I had the pleasure of stopping at this club while passing thru on a vacation trip. It is small, quiet, and very unique. It has plenty of trees and shade. Directions are perfect. Games are 4.00 for non-members and 3.50 for members. Open most of the week, it is set into a hillside and is very peaceful. My first impression was it appeared that someone turned his huge back yard into a range. The yard with flowers, trees, and bushes, sit on nice well cut green grass covering sloping hills. Established in 1971 the club house is cozy, dusty, and rustic with exposed ceiling beams. It looks more like a dance lodge but is used primarily for nra classes, meetings, and events. One of the rooms off to the side is the retail store. The shelves are stuffed to the gills with reloading, ammo, and fishing items for sale. Ammo is sold on site. A huge comfortable wooden deck patio is connected to the side of the lodge that looks out over the yard. Modern bathrooms are on site. The changes over time can be seen when you walk the grounds. It has one skeet and one trap range in operation but one skeet and one trap field has gone to seed. A rifle/pistol/archery range is in operation as well. A dirt gravel road brings you to the skeet/trap range. As you drive, you will note that the road cuts thru an old trap layout that was abandoned.
The operational ranges are rustic and laid out on well kept grass with cement stations, not sidewalks. The mountain view is breathtaking and is a distraction when shooting. You tend to stare out over the backdrop and forget about pulling the trigger! The locals have their old worn loungers strategically leaning up against certain trees that shade practically the whole range. Station one had a mud puddle on it from recent rain. The houses look like old sheds with aged wood. Perfect targets are thrown.
The trap field only has 16yd shooting points with no handicap lines. classic old shell stands are on every point. targets disappear over a bluff. Its the kind of place you’d come to shoot for 30 minutes and then just hang out and walk around for the rest of the day and relax. Great place for a picnic but have your ear pro on when you get out of your car. The rifle range is right next to the parking lot. Well worth a visit. Tell charlie and mary, bob from virginia sent you and have a great time!
