Went there to shoot clays today. No mention that you must use their ammo in a rental gun. Showed them I just bought factory ammo and they said they dont know what junk shells people are going to use so you have to buy theirs at 2x the price. Rental was a piece of junk, first one only would fire bottom chamber second one misfired 3 times in 50 rounds with their ammo. The trappers were great but the guy behind the counter with the beard was a real jerk.

I have been going here for several years and I am in charge of a youth shooting club with 140 members.
This is the range of choice for us.
We are treated great by Chris and his staff and they make us feel welcome.
They freely offer help or advise when needed.
Sadly I have not been there for awhile as I have a broken leg, but will be taking a student today for private lessons.
This may be the safest place I have ever gone and most friendly to customers.
I have been to ranges from California to New jersey and so far have found none better run and they keep it nice.

After calling two weeks prior to arrival to check on validity of written brochure, we entered office to register to shoot sporting clays and stood in line behind 5 target shooters. There was no indication that the shotgun games were not available so we continued to wait to express our needs while the two men finished their customers. When we stated why we were there, we were told that nothing was working because “we can’t get help to run the course and I haven’t set up the machines”. After we asked hype come the brochure and the phone confirmation and the wrong directions and the media reviews still offered non-existent sporting clays?. We requested alternative places and received the wrong # and disparaging remarks about other places we knew were decent. in summary, be aware of poor attitude that reeks of incompetence.

Went here this weekend with my neighbor and thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Instructions were clear and felt comfortable for being a newbie! I will be coming back to this facility.

This is the best civilian range I have been. I like it because it is outdoor and allow you to shoot your guns. I have been there several times by myself, with my young girls and with friends. The staff is great and the range masters are as helpful as they can be. I have recommanded this range to several of my friends and they love it. Keep the good job and keep us, guns lovers, happy.

I use the gun range. It is my second favorite so far. I prefer the range at the Titusville Police Museum, but that is an indoor range.
The attendants take safety quite seriously. They are not too chatty, but they can’t afford to be if they are to monitor safety, and keep their eyes on the shooters. Since I live 2 miles away it is a very convenient range.

Great place, good supervision, when improvements are made its going to elevated this range to a higher standard, great place, use it, visit it.

Tuesday 12/20/11 we received funding from IRC County Commission ($740,000.00) to build (3)state of the art Skeet & Trap Comb Fields, 15 station Sporting Clays, AC Classrooms/Restroom/Concession Stand/Meeting rooms. Plus lighting for the whole clays shooting operation. We hope to have it open this summer.

I really like this range. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, especially the range master. If it were closer to where I live, I would be there much more often. It’s nice to have somewhere that I can take the pistols and long guns, without having to buy a membership.

Very well maintained facility. Safety officers on site do an excellent job of taking care of shooters and visitors. Must read provided material to be “Approved” for using the range. Most areas under shade. Soft drinks and refreshments available for purchase. “Clubhouse” on grounds is used for everyone who visits. There is a reasonable dress code that is required or entry to the range area will be denied.
Overall, this facility is great! It is outdoors! and EVERYONE is friendly and available for assistance and answer questions, and provides other assistance when needed.

My in-laws live in the area and I’ve been going to the range for pistol, rifle and shotgun for a number of years. One of the finest and best run facilities I’ve been to. The sporting clays are a challenge, especially the ones going away from you!

Went to this range for the first time 10-16-10. Place is great. Line staff are tops. I have a new semi auto pistol which was my first semi auto. Line staff showed me how to handle the pistol safely and gave me tips on how to hold and shoot the pistol. Safety on the range was their top prioty. Nice facilty and staff. I want to try skeet shooting there soon. Too bad Brevard County will never have anything like this.

Top notch. Well staffed and professionally run range. Safety the main priority and well supervised. My appreciation to the Indian River County governing body that approved, staffed and maintains this range. Also to the employee’s at the range. Many thanks. To a life long gun enthusiast and hunter it is a real pleasure to be a member at this range. Its a safe, great place for family also to learn gun safety and proper shooting technique in the proper environment. Saint Lucie County should consider the same type of range be provided to their residents. Tax money well spent.

I been in this place so many times with family and friends the persons working in this place they are very professionals and make this place very safe, the place is very clean, cheap, pay one price shoot all day. Thank you for the employees and the county to have something like this that we can use.

I have been to several shooting ranges in the Central FL area, and the Indian River County Public Shooting Range is BY FAR the best!! The staff is well trained, and quick to help, should a need arise. Safety is their top priority. There is a gunsmith onsite, who has helped me with a trigger issue, giving me advice, and making the repair. The lobby is usually fully stocked, and drinks are available for purchase right on the range. I HIGHLY recommend this range to anyone in the area with an interest in shooting. đ

Been to many ranges, this is my favorite. Great staff most of the time. Everybody is always helpful when out shooting. I feel very safe here, they keep an eye out on everybody, if you don’t like that, stay away. It is nice to have a public range well run. Most counties don’t have squat for public use. Indian River County is very lucky. Range is well maintained and clean.

I have gone here once, and I do plan on going again. The facility is very nice, but the staff is not. My father and I showed up a bit later than everyone else, and when we got there, people were shooting. We had a full pack of ammo to shoot. In the end, we were the last two left, and they still had roughly ten minutes until closing. Once we had finished, the staff at the range with us said “Finally.” and started walking away. Honestly, it’s your job, you should have no problem staying until CLOSING.

I have to say, I was very disappointed with the IRC Shooting Range. The facility itself, is just fine. However, the help was less than helpful. Before I ever even visited, I called several times (on different days) to ask for information. The first time I called, I just wanted to know the basics about using the range. (hours, rules, prices, etc) It seemed like everything that I asked, I had to work for. The person on the phone gave me short, terse, one word answers, or otherwise (seemingly) tried to make me feel like a fool for asking. The last time I called, I asked for wind conditions, as I wanted to sight in a .17 caliber rifle. The attendant told me, “I have no idea, I’m not outside.” I asked if there were flags posted, or something that he could a visual on, or maybe just go outside. He flatly said “no”.
I don’t want to be a nit-picker, but I am a serious shooter, and I expect more than “give me your money and shoot already” treatment. Nothing that I’ve asked was out of line, and should be expected questions of shooters. It’s a nice facility, but maybe train the help a little better on dealing with the public?

This is a nice facility but they do NOT have an operational Sporting Clays Course. Also the 5-stand is ONLY open on the weekends. Their website does NOT reflect this and unfortunately I went off their website and wasted 3 hours of my time. Also their hours are Thursday to Monday NOT Wednesday to Sunday as advertised.

I agree with all the good comments posted by others.
It would be helpful if the operating hours could be made clearer, by
a posted sign at the entrance and on the web page. The schedule needs to make it clearer whether the hours posted for clays and “5-stand” also apply to the pistol and rifle ranges. (Not knowing any better, I arrived on Tuesday in mid-afternoon and found the place locked up.)

As a life-long shooter of rifles and handguns, when I have participated in many variations of the shooting sports … from “plinking” with .22 rifles as a child, and moving on to earn many rankings by the NRA from Pro-Marksman, through all the Sharpshooter “bars”, and reaching the Expert rating in small-bore riflery while a junior. I am now in my 6th decade of life and have lived in several cities and have been a lifelong shooter, being a member of both indoor and outdoor facilities … and i have become accomplished with handguns as well as rifles.
Most of the folks who work at the range know me, as I am there a lot. Having said all that … this is my impression after many hundreds of days on their firing lines …
The Indian River County Range ranks right at the top of the list in every aspect: from the safety of all people inside the facility, to the cleanliness of the restroom, the variety of shooting options available, the maintenance of the grounds to the shooting ranges, and what is also so very important to all aspects of what goes on … the staff.
Knowledgeable, friendly, in control, and always helpful … from the man at the top to all of the range officers … everyone is there to ensure safety remains the foremost responsibility which allows all to have a good time.

I have been to the range many times. Each time I go to 5 Stand I have had a range officer named Robert Boles. He is the best there is. He is always on time and ready to go. He friendly and helpful in every way. He is the reason I enjoy 5 stand at the range.

This is a very nice facility but they are not user friendly to self defense shooters. The stands at the pistol range are set up at 45 and 75 feet, if you want to shoot at 21 or 25 feet you have to argue with whom ever is range officer at the time and if they let you shoot close-in they have some flimsy stands you have to set up that are more time consuming and less sturdy then their regular stands. I would like to see them put some target stand pipes in the ground at 20 – 25 feet for those of us that want to keep our SD skills up. I am willing to volunteer my time to help if it gets the job done.

Nice Range, clean and Professionally Run, Stressing Safety first. Brought my 16 year old son to shoot my .270 and Marlin 336 there about a year ago. Going back up this weekend. We have an Outdoor range here at Markham Park but there is always a 2 hour wait.

This range is very professionally run.
The entire staff has always been friendly and helpful.
The 5 stand has always been a great way to spend the afternoon and the range officers who man it always make it a good time.

First time today. I’ll be back. I have been shooting for over 56 years and really enjoyed the treatment I received today at Indian River. Very very professional attitude. None of this gun store macho BS. Well run clean and sooooo safe. I will be back on the weekend to shoot clays. I found a safe place to shoot again.
Thank you all.

I shoot 5 stand, at the range every time I visit Sebastian, and Vero Beach Fl. which is about 5 times per year. The range officers are great, the facility is well kept and I consider the club a top notch public facility. I’ve been a very satisfied a member for 3 years.

It is very safe with vigilant range officers making sure there are zero accidents. There is an area next to the office to go fishing. They have rod and tackles in the office. There is a section for archery if you’re into the bow and arrows. Everyone is very friendly. It is very educational for the whole family and reasonably inexpensive for an afternoon outing.

Indian River County shooting range is the nicest shooting range I have ever been to.. the guys that run the place are all very helpful and nice.
I’ve been shooting for many years and moved to this area I have taught both my kids to shot at this range, both have learned rifles, hand guns and skeet.
Stop by the range you will be impressed.

Haven’t used the clays area — it’s new. A few years ago IRPSR got destroyed by hurricanes so it’s newly rebuilt.
pistol range
100 yard rifle range
200 yard range (tunnel part of it)
They sell ammo there, targets, glasses, ear protection. One of the better ranges you can attend. I think its about $9/person/day.
My member number is under 200. 2 years ago I brought my father in law and they issued him one over 8500. Lots of people shooting there.
Closes in the rain — check the weather…

Our family’s first shoot was on Easter Sunday we were all happy with the course and especially Jim, the course designer and trapper.Jim was very capable of answering all questions and concerns. We have since been to the 5 stand and thought it was challenging and fun. Indian river is a great place to shoot try it you’ll like it.

Simply the most outstanding and cleanest âPublicly Ownedâ facility I have ever visited. The complex is very clean, and very well maintained. From the Pro Shop to the various ranges offered by the complex, services are provided by a helpful, knowledgeable, and well trained staff (and I do not work there). The registration/sign in process is very quick, range fees are reasonable and comparable to other complexes.
I shoot at the 5-Stand facility weekly, occasionally shoot (mostly just before deer season) on their 100/200 yard hi-powered rifle range, and I also use the handgun range once in a while as well. I havenât tried the small arms range or the archery ranges, yet. Almost forgot, the facility also offers a stocked pond, exclusively for children to fish.
The facility was built on a very nice piece of Florida woodlands, and most of the surrounding areas within the range remain natural.
If you are in the area, have your gun and a few minutes to spare, drop in and dust a few clays, I am sure you will enjoy the facility and the experience as much as I do.
