Moved to NY state recently and closer to Mid Hudson so I recently became a member. I often go up mid week and the club is usually not too crowded. Friendly staff, plenty of easy and challenging presentations and an easily walkable layout make this club both a challenge and a joy.

Mid Hudson is conveniently located a couple of miles from the New Paltz exit on the NYS Thruway. The club is nestled in among farmlands and woods in a very scenic part of the state. Downtown New Paltz is just a couple of miles west of the club, providing access to several motels and numerous nice restaurants. It’s a college town but the shooters are best characterized as “serious;” you won’t find many people fiddling with their shotguns for the first time.

They provide the services listed above in a nice setting. There is a one story building that houses the office, complete with wood burning stove, seating area with small kitchen and restrooms. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Outside the main office is a covered pavilion/picnic area.

I shot the sporting clays course. 18 stations, 4 traps per station, fully automated with a card system that permits you to set a delay and select your report pairs. As such, you do not need a trapper/puller to go out on the course with you. I didn’t understand how to set the delay at the first station, and a trapper magically appeared to coach me through the programming. Then he followed me to the next station to make sure I was squared away. As a general rule the A/B combo is relatively easy, while the C/D combo is meant for more advanced shooters.

Having 4 traps to choose from at each station meant that I shot more than I normally would at a 2 trap SC course, primarily because I wanted to see all the presentations and work on the ones that stumped me. As a result I shot about 140 rounds compared to the usual 100. You pay by the clay (0.60) so this can get a little expensive if you don’t exercise some impulse control! At checkout the staff accounted for broken clays; I think I had 3, which is very respectable after a rain storm.

The course is flat and walkable. Skip the golf cart unless the path is severely muddy and you don’t have boots. You’ll save additional money, of course, if you bring your own gun and ammo, although they have those items to rent or buy in the office.

In summary, an excellent course in an excellent location. They host registered tournaments here and I plan to return to shoot some registered targets. Some may find the price a little higher than at some other public courses but it would be hard for me to complain since the place is well-maintained and you don’t have to tip a trapper.

Currently working in CT and due to Draconian gun laws in CT I have not been able to do any shooting while I have been here. Found Mid Hudson on the ClayTargetsOnline.com site and decided to drive over and give them a try. Very pleasant and helpful folks. They have a nice facility and the setup is good for Novice or Advanced shooters. Course is easy to walk or they have carts for rent. I will definitely shoot there again if I get a chance before I leave CT. It was definitely worth the drive over.

Had a great time with my son. Course was laid out well, staff was friendly but challenging. The location was easy to get to yet very rural setting. Nice.

If you’re looking for a friendly staff this is the place, if your looking expert advice this is the place, if your looking to bond with family or friends or just melt with nature while testing your shooting skills this is definitely.

First time ever shooting clays. Took my 3 sons out as a Christmas present, and we had a great time! Pete’s encouragement was much needed, as was his instruction and guidance. The guys said they’ll be back, I will too!

Was a guest at a fund raiser. Had a great time. Staff was friendly and very willing to give instructions and shooting tips. Great no nonsense policy. I will be returning with friends shortly.

My friends and I visited Mid Husdon this past Saturday. Of the 8 of us, only 2 were experienced shooters and none of us had ever tried sporting clays. All I can say is “wow”! Great facility, great course, great challenge, friendly, knowledgeable and patient staff – the list goes on. I may have to put down my golf clubs and pick up shooting as a hobby! Prices were very reasonable for the course, gun rental and ammo. I’ll definitely go back.

Shoot here often. Nice club and nice people. No crowds, no pressure and the most relaxing club you can shoot at. Good mix of presentations and a few are extremely challenging.

I visited Mid Hudson Sporting Clays yesterday. This is a nice facility with friendly staff. The sporting clays course is more difficult than some of the other courses I have shot at. This might put off some beginners.
The sporting clays course is relatively short and easily walkable, you do not need to rent a cart. Facilities are pretty good. I will come back.

Excellent course. Presentations are well thought out and challenging, a great course to practice for competitions. A decent amount of long and traplike shots that you see in comps. The drive from the NYC area is not bad [less than 1.5 hours] and the staff is accommodating and friendly. One of the better facilities around, I totally recommend this place. If you love this sport like I do,DON’T miss a chance to shoot here.

Mid Hudson is the facility I frequent the most during the year. I sometimes get there once a week. Even for someone who goes there as often as I do, I am always kept interested by the presentations. Pete Wicker and the rest of the folks at Mid Hudson do a fantastic job of keeping the course fresh and challenging all year round. I highly recommend visiting this facility. You’ll be glad you did.

Also, inquire about a lesson with Keith Lupton. He’s a premiere shooting instructor that can improve anyone’s scores. Mid Hudson is one of the courses he teaches on.

I have been shooting at Mid Hudson for six months and it never gets tired or boring. The management and staff are always helpful and attentive. I look forward to shooting and introducing others to shoot a great sport at a great place.

The location is only 15 minutes off the Thruway, but the setting is totally rural. The club house was warm and had plenty of room to prepare for the course. The rolling terrain and steep departure angles made for a challenging course. I will be back this month with another group of shooters, and hope to have an advantage!!!

When I arrived at this facility I was immediately welcomed by the friendly staff and all associates of MHSC were more than accommodating. Right off the stock, I knew this was going to be a challenging, fun round, partially due to the presentation of the first station. It had a fast crossing left-right, quartering low target….under the radar so to speak because the first target was up and away. Other stations that followed had many “no show” targets moving away from you…so if ones visual acuity was left in the club house, you might have better luck trying to spot the coffee machine. Being a southern shooter frequenting at a facility called Old Forge, I’m used to the southern landscape and a little more open window shooting. This course presented me with an opportunity to see just how well I perform with a close window. See and shoot, lost or dead here folks. If you’re looking for a long “showing”, go see a movie……Thanks again MHSC for an excellent time!!!….stay public!!!!!

I found this to be a good course for challenging yourself. There are some stations that you better have your “A” game for, as the birds are moving fast & are far away. The location itself was very scenic. I shot here in the winter and I am sure with all of the surrounding woods the foliage it must be 100X’s better looking in the fall.
As to the staff they were both very friendly and “bend over backwards” accommodating. I am definitely planning a return trip here soon!

In Short… this is a very friendly, wonderful place to shoot sporting clays! The entire staff is helpful and works to make each shooter feel pleased about their visit, free coffee and pastries, and a joy to shoot. They cater to both new shooters and advanced shooters. Each time I visit I notice some additional improvements to the facility; which proves they are making a commitment to the sport and will be catering the their clients for a long time to come.

We signed up for an afternoon of instruction with Keith Lupton. The course was a great mixture of targets, well presented and maintained. Keith is indeed a premier instructor, and had the new shooters and the old bad habits shooter moving along towards better scores and techniques. He is patient, direct and able to correct in a completely nonoffensive way. He also took the time to perform some gun adjustments that made all of the fitments more appropriate to the primary shooter. I expect that we will shoot there once or twice again this year, to put his instruction to work.

I had the opportunity to shoot at this facility recently. Despite the fact that I was with a large group of mostly inexperienced shooters, the staff and everyone we came in contact with was friendly and helpful.
The facility is well maintained and is nicely configured. The stands offered a wide variety of challenging shots even to an experienced shooter. The fact that the system is automated and your partner releases the clays for you allows you to relax and set your own pace.
Before we had even left the grounds my brothers and I were already planning our next trip back.

I was a first timer of the place and also a beginner sporting clay shooter. Walked in, the staff was great and helpful to my inexperience and they get you right out onto the field. There are 15 stations with 6-8 shots at each. Prices ok, but really worth it. $43.00 for 100 targets on the sporting clays course. One great thing is there is no trapper following you to see those embarrassing misses! The courses are automatic at the touch of a button from your partner, or yourself and can be shot at whichever pace you like. Nice people, relaxed environment, great shooting terrain. The walk is easy but you can rent off road golf carts for a fee of $15.00. Worth the drive from anywhere!

Mid-Hudson is a terrific facility. My experience is limited to the sporting clays. The sporting clay course is fully automated and offers 15 stations ranging from easy to seemingly impossible.

Prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly and knowledgable. If you live in southern NY, northern NJ or western CT this is a club you really should not miss.

Lots of fun. Worth the two hour drive from my house.
Not needing a trapper was nice. Was able to shoot the course twice and one round of 5-stand in just 3 hours.

Well I must start by mentioning that I am just a novice shooter, although I am working on that.
The target shooting at this club is varried, the sporting clays course is very interesting as it follows a path around the entire property with about 14 different stations. The course is automated so you shoot the stations that you like at your own pace, I like that.
This facility has a 5 stand and a FITASC field right out in front of the club house. Both fields have more than 10 automatic traps throwing clay targets in different presentations. I just watched other shooters play the game so far, they seemed to have a lot of fun.
This facility is well run and seems to cater to mixed bag of shooters, there are some very serious target people as well as a lot of new shooters. I would highly recomend calling for lessons with Kieth Lupton, he is a real pro and really helpful.

The fully automated clay course makes it a pleasure for self conscious beginners like myself; no need for an employee to go with you and watch your numerous misses. Great instruction available by appointment with Keith Lupton. The employees and fellow shooters make a novice women shooter comfortable. Welcoming environment from the club house to the course. Wear shoes that can handle the mud in the spring. Truely worth a drive from CT, NJ. Luckily I live close by and am able to shot there each weekend, but do call ahead to make sure there is no tournament going when you want to venture out.

Yesterday was my introduction to Sporting Clays. As a second time shooter (once at Casa de Campo), i was given terrific instruction by an english gentleman named Keith. I was also impressed by the layout of the Sporting Clay course and the friendliness of the staff and other visitors. The day on the course with the fall foliage as a backdrop was worth the trip.
