My son attended the Sportsmans Education course the “Youth Conservation Program”. I wish I took this course when I was a youth. By far the best Hunter ed course for youths. Club members, Conservation officers teach this course approved by NYSDEC Youth Education Dept. This club went out of its way to provide a course specific for youth education and to making this course the best. Great facility. A general Hunters education course is all class room. This course was hands on in many ways. The Youths performed wild life identification, range shooting and proper in hand gun safety. A deer provided by the DEC was field dressed. The club also provided lunch and gifts for the youths. This was a two day all day course and for gun and bow certifications. This course was also free.

This Club should be commended for its efforts in hosting this course and giving youths a very positive experience and a good start to a life of responsible hunting, gun ownership and conservation minded ethics to ensure proper sportsmanship. I am looking to enroll my youngest son this year.

I shot at an NSCA shoot at Peconic in March of this year. The course was set very fair this particular day and was easy walking. Some of the presentations were tricky and varied with man-made terrain obstacles. (Long Island, in general, is flat). There was a five stand for warm-up they day I shot and the shoot was followed by a nice meal. All the people were friendly and down to earth. Definitely worth a visit on a public shooting day…

I have been shooting their two ga. skeet shoots and have had a great time and felt welcomed even though I was just a visitor. I highly recommend if you can make one or more of these shoots to do so.

Although the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club is a private club, we take great pride in our continuing efforts to maintain strong community involvement on a county, state and federal level. We also host shooting events for charitable purposes. On October 3rd, 2003, we will host a sporting clays event through the auspices of Sportsmen for Charity. This will benefit the Ascent School for Autistic Children in Deer Park with a projected donation of 20 to $30,000. During the past three years, the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club has hosted sporting clays events resulting in the donation of $65,000 to the Women’s Health Partnership. The Women’s Health Partnership is a support group for women afflicted with breast cancer.

We host Sportsman Education Programs for the NYSDEC as well as it’s Youth Conservation Programs (YCP) on a yearly basis and allow all police departments and branches of the military to utilize our range facilities. These have included the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, FBI, NYSDEC, NYS Police Sniper Team and Riverhead Town Police.

In addition to our many educational programs, we also host the Women in the Outdoors Program. Women in the Outdoors is an organization whose main goal is to introduce women to the outdoor sports. Through the accomplishment of this goal, it is hoped that a positive political attitude will be instilled in a large voting segment of our population.

On September 26th we will host our annual Legislator’s Night. This is a similarly goal related program. Legislators are encouraged to attend shooting instruction during the day and given the opportunity to express their political views to our members and their guests at the evening meeting.

Because of our efforts as noted above, we were honored to receive the 2002 Club of the Year Award from our local organization; The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.

More recently we became the first private club to receive the Federal Environmental Agency’s award for our preparation and submission of an Environmental Stewardship Plan. To the best of our knowledge, the only other establishment to have received this award is Orvis Sandanona.

The Peconic River Sportsman’s Club‘s position is clear regarding it’s involvement and support of worthwhile organizations and also our civic responsibility to maintain our club with the highest possible standard.

The foregoing can be summarized by the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club mission statement.

” The Peconic River Sportsman’s Club, hereinafter called PRSC, is an organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of our property for posterity.
    Our goals include:
 Maintaining the environmental, ecological and historical integrity of our land and facilities.
 Promoting the safe use of firearms and the protection and preservation of our 2nd Amendment rights.
 Preserving and improving wildlife and freshwater habitat.
