Stopped by last Thursday to shoot some skeet and international bunker traps, approached the gentleman at the counter and told him I was out of state and wanted to try his skeet and trap fields and if he had some customers I could join in with. . His response caught me off guard by saying skeet in his area had died off and nobody played anymore , okay then what about your International bunker trap. Another surprising answer was I don’t know how to use it or set the equipment up. The man behind counter seemed to be real nice but not knowing how to use or set up equipment was a big disappointment , I will not try to return if work brings back that direction again

My wife and I are novices at shooting. We’ve shot a little bit at family functions, but wanted to check out a Professional setting. We took our 18 y/o daughter who had never held a gun before, and she was issued a 20 ga.
We were sent to the “WOBBLE”. We advised the attendant of our experience, and he helped us through. All three of us had a great time. I’m going back today with two newbies, and introduce them to the sport.
    A Very rewarding experience.

The last two visits were on weekends we should have been told about parties and tournaments for sport and clay. only able to use 8 stations.

Prince George’s is a full-service facility with reasonable prices. They offer everything a shooter may need (shotgun rentals included) and offer a wide variety of venues – trap, skeet, wobble trap, and well-done little sporting clays course. FYI, the sporting clays course is entirely self-pulled. I sometimes miss having a puller giving hints on targets, but I think pulling your own ultimately makes for lower prices and shorter lines – there’s no waiting for the next group to go out. The location is very convenient…for those of you living in the District, a 20-minute drive will have you blasting clays!

I’m in the area periodically and have always enjoyed Prince George’s sporting clays course. It has about 18 stations in fields and forest, and is very nicely laid out. The staff is friendly and they rent “good (Beretta) shotguns” too, which came in handy when a friend of mine joined in with his sons. A great time was had by all!

We just attended Prince George’s County Trap & Skeet Center for the first time this past weekend (4/23/11) and it was a BLAST! We went as part of my brother’s bachelor party and Rhys and Rowland were the best instructors anyone could ask for. They made the day fun and above all safe. Most of us live 2 hours or so away and yet we’ve all already made plans to go again bring our wives/girlfriends with us next time. I cannot say thanks enough for helping make our day a fantastic one!!!

Had my first visit today as my fiance took me as a surprise birthday gift. Rhys is the best! I am a total newbie to shooting but he treated us like regulars and was very helpful and FUNNY. I recommend Rhys if you need instruction. The guy is a pro. My fiance and I are hooked. We might find shotguns purchases in our future:) Receipt: 80 for instructor, 1 case of 20ga. shells 8.02, and 2 trap tickets at 10.39 (5.19 each): total $99.50. We were out for an hour, best gift ever:)

This is a great place to shoot. The instructor I used was Rhys, he is first rate. Facilities are superb, easy to get to (right off Beltway), and they are reasonably priced. No membership fee. I would absolutely recommend this range and Rhys.

Bottom line up front: This is an outstanding facility! From a safety perspective, beautiful natural setting, and from customer service as well. The environment of safe, fun, and challenging engagement with shotguns and sporting clays/skeet dominate this quality recreational setting. The staff are very helpful, knowledgeable, and concerned for your safe and proficient use of firearms while on the grounds. They also circulate around the grounds to ensure the atmosphere of safe shotgun operation and help you when you run across a problem with your rifle or operation of the clays. Highly recommend this experience. Additionally, Rhys Arthur is the superior mentor for sporting clays/skeet instruction, he is top tier. Get out there and shoot!

My son and I had great experience. We took the basic shooting class with Ryhs and Bob. Instruction was thorough and left us with the knowledge to begin to shoot. I have been hunting since a child and small adjustment by Ryhs to my bifocals fixed a large part of my shooting problem. We will be returning again and again.

I thought the facility was nicely laid out. There were a few things that I didn’t like a lot though: the people in the club house were not super friendly (they did have a skeet tourney that weekend and may have been busier than normal), they were crazy about barrel length (my friends Benelli said 26″ right no the side but the kid measured it with a yard stick and said no dice, has to be 25″ long) several of the stands on the clays course didn’t work (dead batteries on the throwers and some just taped off). The grounds are very nice, the equipment is very nice as well (a very cool insert your card and pull as many as you’d like system, and there is tons of room (must be a dozen skeet ranges) so overall not bad if you live in the area but I wouldn’t plan a vacation around it.

First let me enter a disclaimer: During our visit on 9/26 there was a state skeet tournament in progress, so I’ll pardon the lack of available assistance on that fact.

BUT, out of 22 sporting stations maybe 12-13 operated properly…if they were operational at all. Lots of “no bird” calls due to breakage and simply, no bird. There wasn’t a tremendous selection of variety either. I’ve shot at clubs with 14 stations that had much more to offer in regard to angles and directions.

THE most offensive gesture, though, came when it was time to check in our guns. (My son-in-law was with me, so I brought along two guns) When I gave the attendant my Weatherby o/u he barely even glanced at it and ok’d it on the spot. But when I pulled out my Benelli M2 he made a face and started shaking his head. “I’ll have to measure your barrel”, he said. “Nothing less than 24″ (My barrel is 26″…very obvious!) He did ok it, as well, but now comes the real offensive part:
My son-in-law’s friend brought his M2. He also had to submit to the same scrutiny-the difference being that he had a 24″ barrel, and they refused him permission to shoot with it. They said it only measured 23”. He then had to rent a worn-out gun from the club, which would NOT fire two shots consecutively. He had to return it for another rental gun, which worked ok, but there was a lot of hassle involved.

Upon returning to the clubhouse at the end of our shoot I noticed in the rules that were posted on the wall outside “Minimum barrel length: 23″” I’m standing there wondering: “WTF, mate??!” Now, believe me, I understand the need for rules at a gun club, but it seems that either the assistant couldn’t use a tape measure, or the “rules” were being applied with something else in mind.

Bottom line: It seems that not much goes on in the way of upgrading and upkeep-though the paths did appear to be freshly paved. While having the opportunity to shoot is better than not shooting at all, this club needs a little TLC. Come on guys! You can do better. I’ll give the club 1 star.

Formerly known as the Beretta Range, PG Trap and skeet is one of the best clay target facilities in the mid-atlantic, and one of the select locations in the East sporting an Olympic trap field (AKA Bunker Trap). It’s easy to get to, adjacent to NASA Goddard in Greenbelt off of I-495, and has great amenities such as voice-activated trap fields and a 22-station sporting clays course with multiple towers. I have shot skeet, trap, Olympic trap, and sporting clays here many times and never hesitate to bring new shooters to PG whenever I’m in town. The staff are friendly, the service is great, and the pro shop is very well stocked with shells, reloading supplies, clothing, and rental shotguns. Combine that with a friendly group of range regulars–both human and canine–and good prices (buy your skeet and trap tickets in groups of ten; you save a dollar per round), and PG has come up with a winning facility.

The only thing I would caution against is trying to get to this range during peak rush hour times in the late afternoon and evening. You will sit in gridlock on the Washington Beltway and/or Baltimore Washington Parkway for hours.

My wife and I had high hopes, but poor customer service always trumps.
As retired military, we have some experience with skeet and trap from military installations. I has been a few years since I retired, so our skills are a bit rusty. I had read good things about this state run center so we drove over an hour with our equipment hoping to shoot a few rounds. When we spoke with the desk attendant, we explained our situation and he recommended getting some professional pointers from the local pro. We took his card and assumed the pro was doing this part time, so we called and left him a voicemail. We headed home a few minutes later, and almost a mile from home the pro called back stating that he was at the club while we were there, and is there everyday! Now why the attendant did not tell us this is beyond me. We wasted a full morning driving there and back when he could have easily mentioned this fact. Don’t think I will be back. Going to look for something closer and not run by state employees.

I received a Maverick 88 as a Christmas gift and tried to shoot it at this club. They turned me away saying the barrel was too short and wouldn’t give me any info on where I could shoot. They were very nice, but I don’t see how I was not allowed to use a legal shotgun at their range.

We are very fortunate to have the Prince George’s Trap & Skeet Center here in Maryland. Mark Biggins and his staff have been very cooperative and helpful in support of our Maryland 4-H Shooting Sports program, allowing us the opportunity to conduct our State 4-H Shotgun Match here each year since 2005. That first year we had just 19 youth shooters from 3 counties. We look forward to our 6th MD 4-H Shotgun Match this coming Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008. It is great to see the growth in our 4-H youth shotgun program. We expect 87 youth from 8 Maryland Counites on the ranges at PG this Saturday. Thanks to Mark and the staff at PG Trap & Skeet for helping us reach more youth in shooting sports.

I visited with my husband to shoot today, since we had heard great things about the facility. We were surprised with the lack of gun safety among the other shooters. Also, we were less than impressed with the help on the range. You do have top notch guns. Granted, we requested trap guns and received sporting guns. The facilities were well kept and clean.

The Prince Georges Trap & Skeet Center in my view ranks among the finest shotgun facilities in the country. Mark Biggins and his staff have for years dedicated themselves to offering the shotgunning public the very best in clay target games, cleanliness of the facility, a well stocked Pro Shop as well as professional and courteous treatment of all who visit, member or non. I have visited this excellent range many times in the nearly 10 years my family and I lived in Maryland. I have brought numerous clients to the range and they were always impressed with the staff and accommodations there. I remember one client who had never had anything to do with gun clubs commenting after our lesson, “Wow, do all gun clubs work this hard to make you feel at home?”
If you miss your opportunity to visit this range while in the DC area, you owe it to yourself to make the time to shoot there!

What is not mentioned in the review of the facility is they have one of the few International “Bunker” trap operations in the country. Also, I shoot there at least once a week. I have shot all of the target games. I have never had a bad experience while there. The trap range is voice operated so you can shoot by yourself. They can also set up the Skeet range to be voice actuated. The Sporting clays range can be operated without a trapper which is handy when one is not available. You always meet friendly personnel and shooters when you go there. If you go by yourself they will find someone for you to shoot with. All in all, an outstanding facility.

I first visited PG range more than ten years ago when I was temporarily stationed at Ft. Meade and looking for a hobby to make my duck hunting more effective. I still have the hat. The atmosphere was fun, informal, safety conscious and friendly. It was so informal and friendly nobody treated my like a newbie. I had to let folks know I was new to the range. They were more than helpful. I came back to the area 2 years ago and came right back to the same excellent atmosphere and upgraded facility. No stuffy shirts here. great facility and people. I eventually got 3 more soldiers hooked on PG skeet!

I’ve shot trap for less than a year, but I have been to many different clubs in quite a few states. I learned to shoot at PG. It has a great combination of amenities, friendly staff, supplies, and good pricing. They also just opened an outdoor archery course as well.

Open every single day for practice. Great restaurants in the vicinity, too.

This is a great facility!!! I have been going there to shoot for years. They have a great staff: cordial and very helpful. I bought my Beretta 686 Onyx there, and I got the best price in the area. The accessory shop is top notch. The conference and meeting room is well lit and furnished to make you feel right at home. The shooting facilities are some the best I have experienced. Thanks PGCTSC.

I have used this facility for church-wide outings and personal relaxation. The staff is always great to work with, they have great rental guns available (Beretta over/under) and have a nice picnic pavillion and other support facilities. Our annual father son shooting night is a HUGE success.

It is important to call ahead, as they can get busy with corporate outings or league events, especially in the late afternoon & evening. But I LOVE this facility and reccommend it to anyone as an economical, fun way to build commeraderie and enjoy a couple hours just blowing stuff up.

I had shot at PG only twice before, but contacted them when our church chose to do a skeet tournament as a fundraiser/fellowship event for our missions department. Mark and Morgan were very helpful with organizing the event, and the facility provided a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. The per-round costs were very reasonable, and they were able to provide rental guns for the novices who don’t (yet) own their own. We were very happy with the outcome of the tournament, and the staff and facility had a lot to do with that.

I was introduced to PG Trap & Skeet more than 10 years and it became my home-away-from-home for the time that I lived in Montgomery County, MD. Manager Mark Biggins has done a tremendous job of organizing and maintaining a public facility (better than most private clubs!). Most of the members and visitors are friendly and the staff helpful. New shooters are treated warmly; experienced shooters have a wide variety of clay sports with which to amuse themselves. I have visited many other clay facilities on the East Coast, from New Jersey to Florida and have not found one that is better run…and the price is right! Now that I’m on the West Coast, I miss “PG” more than I could ever have known in advance. Hats off to PG Trap and Skeet! I hope to re-visit them in the not-too-distant future. And let’s hope that when the Olympics come to DC, the shotgun events are held there.—Pat Dwyer (now in Oakland, CA.)

I have had the opportunity to shoot here a numer of times. Excellent facility. The pricing is a bargain, and the staff is extremely accomodating and knowledgeable. Excellent grounds keeping on both the trap and sporting clay course. This facility exceeded all my expectations for a public course.

In 1976-78 I was a shooter there in several leagues when it was privately owned. When winchester took over ownership again I managed the club until Sandy Wood from Winchester could find a fulltime manager I saw what the club looked like then and, during my last visit to Maryland I went to the club and was surprised to see a first class operation, everything you would need is there it is clean, operating very well, well stocked, and the service is excellent. nice place to have fun. Thank You David E. Price Sr.

I travel to the Baltimore area regularly on business and was introduced to PG by a friend. I am an avid clay shooter and enjoy being able to shoot skeet and sporting clays anytime. I am very impressed with the overall customer service of all members of the PG staff. Their staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable of all of the shotgun sports. They gladly answer any and every question and do not attempt to blow smoke at you. The facilities are very clean and neat. They are well stocked to meet all of the shooters wants and needs. Kudos to their entire staff and management. Thanks for making me feel like a member when I am just visiting.

    Sincerely

The price was ok. The lighting was good.
But there was no one to keep score. And on my trap range a couple of the voice activators were not working well.

This range is great. They have night trap and skeet under the stadium lights. The clays are cheap at $3.95 per round. The stands are voice activated. PG Trap and Skeet is the best range I have been to. Knowledgable staff willing to assist.
