Number of visits: Once
11/06/20 — This turned out to be a really quiet weekday at Quail Ridge, for my first visit. But Scott, the owner, opened the doors just for one shooter and put on a good time. He turns out to be ex-military and very “directed” in his approach to customers and his management of the range. Very much appreciated.
My visit started with a safety briefing: very thorough but concise. Since I have not shot since before Covid, it was a brief but practical refresher on simple safety procedures. Some was very basic, some fairly detailed and advanced. All was delivered quickly and to the point: practical with nothing even masters of the sport would resent. Everyone gets the intro speech because that’s the world we live in — just like waivers.
The Clays Range is not on a manicured lawn, but “off down through” the natural local woods. Shooting in a forest provides special tricks of light and shadow on some targets, adding to the challenge of picking up the break point.
On the whole, the targets offered a range from straight-forward to fairly long ranges and challenging little twists — never boring — specially when you failed to pay attention to the “easy”rising target screaming away from the tower :-).
I like visiting ranges wherever I travel as a confirmed retiree. Some are good. Some are not worth a return trip. I’ll be back to this one.
Thanks and best wishes.
