I had found silver dollar on line. I had not been on a trap field for over thirty years and went to check them out. I went back the next day and shot a couple of rounds. I was so excited about this place I became a member that day. Since then I have been turned away from shooting trap on several occasions because of other events.
OK. other parts of the range were open. I had been told that trap was closed to the public. I told the lady I was a member, I was then informed that did not make any difference, but if I wanted to I could shoot five stand. So I did. The last time I take a whole car load of people out there to trap shoot. I front of my guest I am told silver dollar is closed to the public. I said all of it and she said yes. I said I am a member here. Her response was, that does not make any difference. My question is this. To whom does this make no difference? Because I mean to tell you, the IDOT paying membership dues cares. The rude disposition of the people at the counter is almost unbearable.

I started shooting here with a friend about 6 weeks ago. Excellent facilities and super staff. I’m new to the sport and they’re helpful and supportive. We now go twice weekly and always have a great time. I took my wife for her first shoot and the set us up on our own trap and spent some time giving her pointers. Definitely a first class club.

I have had more bad than good visits to this facility but never bad enough to warrant a bad review (until Sunday May 22). This is the only range within an hour of my home that offers 5 stand and that is the only reason I drive the 45min anymore because Skyway is 5mins from my home. I am 29yrs old and I own two fully customized shotguns a Remington 1100 and a S&W 1012. I actually shot my first clays here 2yrs ago after years of my Uncle who is a 59yr old member asking me to go and I fell in love with the sport.
I was always very satisfied as long as my Uncle was there with me but on the numerous trips I have made without him (since he had shoulder surgery last year and cannot shoot yet) with my friends my age and younger I have always felt unwanted and disrespected without him there. I feel it is directly linked to our appearance and age because our range safety and skill are not lacking. I am always very nice even though I feel looked down on and always tip well (usually $10 for 2 rounds of 5 stand). Sunday however was the worst time ever because due to heavy traffic the 45min trip took 1hr30min but we still made it at 3:50pm (they close at 5) only to be told we couldn’t shoot trap even though a station was free but I explained to them we where there for 5 stand and they said that was fine and they punched my card and gave me tokens.
We then walked straight to the truck which was parked in front of 5 stand to get our vests and shotguns and waited a few mins for those ahead of us to finish and began to walk up and where told by the same attendant that has taken hundreds of dollars in tips from me that we couldn’t shoot (it was 4:08pm now). I have shot there many times before right up till close (with my Uncle) with no problem but even after explaining the long trip and the counter punching my card and giving me tokens she did not care.
If it weren’t for the fact that I have previously purchased the buy 15-17 rounds get 1 free cards for trap, skeet, and 5 stand (which I paid over $200 for) I would never go back and I won’t once those cards are all punched and tokens used. I am not a slow shooter and as anyone who shoots on a regular basis knows for two people to shoot a round of trap it only takes 15-20mins and 20-30 for 5 stand so there was plenty of time for either.
I go to Skyway almost every Wednesday nite to shoot at 9pm and have plenty of time for 2-3 rounds of trap and I’m never rushed and always feel welcome even when we don’t finish till almost 10pm which is when they close. I’m glad that some beginners have felt welcome here as I used to (with my Uncle) because I love the sport and they are the next generation of it and there won’t be one without them. Sadly I say this is something Silver Dollar needs to learn hopefully before all my prepaid tokens are gone.
I hate to complain but I can’t help but feel things would have gone different if my Uncle was with us. I also can’t help but think that some of the good reviews they receive from beginners would be different if they’d gone alone without a parent. If we expect youths to join the sport and learn to use and respect firearms we must be there to teach them how and expect that they’re going to look different than we do like every other generation before and to come.

Made my trip to Silver Dollar again today and took my wife along for the ride. She made herself at home under one of the range side pavilions while I shot 4 rounds of trap and two round of wobble. Had a great day once again. Highly recommend this facility.

Finally got back to Silver Dollar and had a great day shooting trap. I managed to get in 5 games and met and talked to some real nice shooters. I brought my Browning Citori this year so shooting trap was a lot more fun. But shooting at this club is always a great time. Staff is friendly and professional, Ed was great at squadding me with groups so i didn’t have to shoot with brand new shooters. He also let me know when to bring new shooters myself, to have a slow day. All in all I really enjoy shooting at this range. I will be back.

The membership quality at the Silver Dollar is superb! The facility is well appointed. The staff goes out of there way to make your visit special. They will take the time to make suggestions about this novice’s shooting skills.( and if you have seen me shoot, I am getting better!) My sons and friends like making a Friday night date at the Silver Dollar. Taking up shooting for me was a bucket list must do. I love the Silver Dollar experience and would highly recommend this Shooter’s Club to all my friends and acquaintances.

Really great place to shoot. Very large facility and extremely well kept. Trap, 5-stand, and skeet. Staff is great and instructors always there. If you have never shot before I encourage you to show up and usually you’ll get a free lesson. I’m younger (ok well 45) and the amount of knowledge the older guys have given me have helped me improve. My son shoot with me and wife does occasionally. They have an on-site gun shop and tons of reloading supplies at very reasonable cost. Bar and cafe too. I shoot there once a week.

My wife and I recently bought a condo in Clearwater Fl and I was able to fit one gun in the car for the ride down to check out our snowbird residence. I brought down an SKB 20 gauge side by side that I could use some help getting used to. So with most of the work done around the new place I decided to visit a few of the local ranges near Clearwater. Silver Dollar was the first one I stopped at yesterday. As the manager of Suffolk Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays I must say I am impressed with this facility. Clean is not a way to describe it. This place is spotless with a great grill for food. Bathrooms are spotless as well. Employees were friendly and professional. The crowd is an older trap shooting crowd which is fine my me. My shooting was poor but it was a great day. I will be sure to bring my trap gun next January when I come down for the winter. AAA+++ for the Silver Dollar Shooting Club, you have set a new standard for my already high standard for my own range. Thanks, see you again before I return to New York.

This was my son’s first experience shooting skeet, and the staff was very attentive, helpful, and patient. Mike took the extra time and taught him safety, and guided him with proper stance and focus. This was an awesome experience for him! I highly recommend this club.

Great trap ranges usually with very little waiting. A decent 5 stand range, and a pair of skeet ranges that could use a little work. Most shooters are retired (50+) and experienced shooters. This range is NOT kid or young adult friendly. If you are under 25 or so, there are better places in Central Florida you will feel more welcome. If you are a seasoned shooter with a little grey in your hair you will fit in and have a great time.

I took a dozen guys,(and one lady)from my son’s wedding party to Silver Dollar Shooting Club on the morning of the wedding. Most were novice shooters. Bill & Bob set us up on our own field, worked with each shooter continuously, got everyone busting birds, and made sure everyone had a great time. This is a beautiful and well organized club with a really friendly staff. I highly recommend that you check it out – you’ll enjoy it to the max!

If you are a TRAP shooter you will love this place. Very nice club house, you can get a hot lunch there, onsite Pro Shop, only had 12ga ammo for sale, good prices. Skeet shooters are second class here, older houses in need of some repair, had lots of broken targets when I shot. The guys at the skeet field are very friendly, they will talk you ear off when not shooting. Mostly retired people shoot there squads a little slow (but they have a lot of fun doing it).

I always enjoy shooting at the Silver Dollar- it is a top notch facility. Don’t forget to shoot the 5 stand and ask when they will shoot “hoops” on the 5 stand range. Hoops is a game where they put several Hula Hoops (remember the 60’s) at various places within the 5 stand setup to provide some really challenging doubles shooting with birds coming from every direction. Shoot it with a small bore to make it a real challange. Have fun as my wife and I have many times during our winter shooting trips thru Florida.

Very nice facility.. Well run, orderly. Most of the shooting is Trap, with very little Skeet participation. Nice club house with lunch counter. Convenient from the entire Bay Area. Skeet is definetly a minority / orphan child however the fields are very nice and well run. This is definetly a Trap Club.
