It’s a little rustic but if you hunt, you presumably have a pair of boots and a vehicle that can handle a dirt road, so enough complaining about the road. I brought my new rifle out there to sight in and the shooting stations were perfectly adequate. It wasn’t crowded (weekday afternoon) and the rates are very reasonable. Got my sighting-in completed at 100 yards, which was the farthest target they had. There were also targets at 50 yards and what looked like maybe 15 for pistol. Looking forward to taking my wife out there for some trap shooting soon.
I don’t get all the complaining. It’s a rutted, potholed road in Louisiana, nothing to get excited about.

Still scratching my head over the complaining about potholes in other reviews. Yes, its muddy after a rain. Yes, there are potholes. Know what else they have?? A friendly, helpful staff, a selection of target ranges with throwers that all worked & reasonable rates. I’ll be going back again.

I was pretty anxious about heading to this place based on the pretty recent and pretty negative reviews.
Personally, I rather enjoyed the place. I was simply looking for a place to test out a new shotgun I had recently acquired, and this place fit the bill. The driveway may have been a little rough, but nothing that my little fwd econobox couldn’t slog through. If I’m being honest, the “roads” in New Orleans are FAR worse than anything this place has to offer. The staff were friendly and helpful, and while I was there all target launchers seemed to be functional. Rates weren’t bad, either. I will definitely be back to this place. If you’re used to high end, fancy ranges with fully automated back scratchers and a full service bar (kidding), this may not be the place for you. But, if you’re looking to bust a couple of pigeons, pattern a choke, or just test cycle a firearm, they’ve got you covered.
Also, there are two addresses listed. The 4990 Hwy 22 address is INCORRECT. Save yourself the extra 10-15 minutes of driving and head to the address on 1077.

The only reason I shoot there IS there is no other range in the region. This place is a junk yard! The road always full of pot holes that are deep and full of water. Bring your boots because you will need them so your feet won’t get wet & muddy. The clay machines are always broken or mal-function. One would think that with no competition the Owner would maintain the site. This place REALLY SUCKS!

The worst range I have every been to, you can get lost in the pot holes in the road before the range, plus the target stands are lousy, only thing that was good the range master was okay.

This place has a lot of shooting options from pistol to rifle to skeet, sporting clays, and two trap ranges. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it is in deplorable condition. There are often equipment problems on the shotgun ranges. Target stands are horrible. If it has rained, take your truck in because the road will have huge mud puddles. Wear your boots because you’ll have to walk in muck everywhere. It’s also a little pricey if you plan to spend some time there and shoot for a while. They even charge you a full hour’s time ($10) to shoot a few shotgun patterns. However, it is convenient on the North Shore and the hours are decent. If this place were even reasonably well maintained, it would be a “nice” place to shoot.

This was my second year to participate in a fund raiser for the Boy Scouts hosted by Humana, Valero St. Charles and United Way. The range is very nice with some challenging stations, the staff are helpful and friendly, although a couple of the stations could use some attention the realness of the shoot is good. We had only one problem with one of the throwers and a staff member was right on it and got he problem solved. Everyone seemed to have a really good time.

I am a member of tallow creek and enjoy every visit to the grounds. The course is set up well with some challenging stations. I live in New Orleans and it would be much easier to drive to South Louisiana Gun Club however they are not nice people at ALL! the staff at tallow is much more friendly than those at South Louisiana Gun Club and are truly thankful for the business. I strongly encourage all those in the area to shoot at tallow creek.

My Dad and I visited Tallow Creek to try out their Sporting Clays course…The staff is very friendly and willing to help out any way they can…The day we shot, there were 15 stations and some very challenging targets…The most enjoyable were the 3-4 stations over water..lots of fun!…The stations are fairly close, so it is walkable for younger shooters, but for my 81 year old Dad, that was not an option…There are no carts available for rent (other than the maintenance cart, which we were charged $15 to use)so time your visit according to the heat index!…Cost per round was $35/per 100 shots…With some TLC, this could be a top notch shooting club..

This club was about a 45 min drive across the lake from the French Quarter. It was not the best maintained club I have shot at but the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a no hassle club where they assume you know what you are doing. I will visit again and recommend it to folks visiting NOLA.

An outstanding facility within 40 minutes from New Orleans. The staff is fantastic, the grounds are beautiful and the machines top notch. I cannot recommend Tallow Creek highly enough. I became a member after shooting once because of how impressed I was with every aspect of their operation.

Took three friends up to Tallow Creek for Sporting Clays during our business convention. Very walkable course with a number of nice presentations. All 12 stations have automatic traps with clearly labled releases for 1-2 report pairs. A number of them, pulled as simultaneous pairs, offered a good challenge. No rental guns, but they allowed us to use a member’s for our group. Very nice folks. Stands could use a little maintenance and clean up.

A laid-back operation that has changed little in 15 years. The game of Sportingclays has evolved into a sport using automatic machines yet owners are slow to invest in an upgrade from hand traps. The one course is fine for the ocasional recreational shooter, but is in need of a professional redesign.
Owners and employees are easy to work with. Ground is busiest and most popular Sporting Clay range in New Orleans area.
