As long as you look up your info online you should be in good shape. I was able to find everything for this range online. Myself and my family go here often and really enjoy ourselves on the rifle range. We have never had an issue going to the range except when we forgot that the national guard takes it over on the first weekend of the month. Everyone has always been nice, with a nice clean place to go shooting.

I had gr8 experiences with the facility on several occasions just poping in. The range officers were very polite and even spotted my rifle rounds for me. I was at the shotgun range just watching and they invited me to shoot with them and even exchanged a box of #7’s for a box of #9’s! Also, my boy and I were given a nice tour of the archery range by an older fella who was extremely knowledgeable while my wife and 2 other boys were taking the hunter safety course. He even let my boy shoot a few different bows on the indoor range! The folks I met there were very polite and helpful! I only wish the hours were later for skeet! We plan on joining the club this season!

My son and I have shot skeet at this facility several times. We have used our own shotguns and rented shotguns. We have shot alone and in groups. We have always enjoyed ourselves. The rangers are always ready and willing to help you with advice and pointers if you ask them but they are not pushy or degrading. We have always left having felt we have learned something new about the sport and have a desire to come back. The facilities are well maintained. Checking is a little more cumbersome than I’m used to at other facilities but not too bad. I wish their summer hours were later than 6 pm. Overall a very good skeet facility.

I am the T.W.R.A manager of the John Sevier Hunter Hunter Eucation/ Range facility. If you will call me @ 865-594-6279 and leave a message I will be glad to talk to you and inform you about the range. We are not able to let people just go looking around @ the range because of safety reasons. If there is a specific range you are interested in we will send you to the range officer @ that range and let you see it. Just remember to bring eye and ear protection. The phone message problem stated above is from messages left on the V.R.P.C answering machine. Not the number I listed above. The Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Club is on the site here at the John Sevier Hunter Education Center. They (V.R.P.C) have their own number which I have no control over. So call us (T.W.R.A) @ 865-594-6279 and we will gladly return you calls and answer and questions you may have.

I have visited this facility on several occasions and have had an enjoyable experience each time. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful. The facilities are well maintained. The TWRA fee is $5.50 for two hours of shooting. This fee applies whether you are going to the shotgun range or the rifle and pistol range. Each round of skeet costs $5.00. If you buy your shotgun shells there, they sell them for $6.00 per box. No. 9 shot is the only thing allowed on the skeet range due to its location behind the rifle range. They are hard to get on the phone. The best thing to do is show up during the hours they are open.

I too was told that I could not see the facility, unless I paid the TWRA for an entrance fee, that was about a year ago. Today I saw the club members at a gun show in Knoxville and talked to them. The funny thing is if you are a member of the club, you do not have to pay the TWRA fees and all but the shotgun range fees are waived. Shotgun cost is $3 a round for trap and skeet for members, but that is to pay for the clay targets, not a bad deal. Club membership is $96 a year, so it is close to most other clubs with similar facilities. I will be looking into the club in the near future.

I do know that it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get any information about shooting at this club. I tried calling 4 (yes 4) different phone numbers to find out about the cost of public skeet and trap shooting. I was unable to get hold of a single person. I left messages on their answering machines but never got a call back. Sounds more like a VERY private club. I guess you have to know someone to get any response or information. I am going to go the extra mile and go to Hog Heaven and be treated halfway decent. I cannot believe that TWRA supports a place like Volunteer Rifle Club. The obviously don’t want to interact with anyone who is interested in part-time shooting activities.

I was RUDELY told that I could not visit the PUBLIC RANGE today because I was not a member. The only time the range is open is when they are shooting and NO VISITORS ARE ALLOWED during that time.
Their reasoning was far beyond me. How do they get members unless visitors are allowed to visit the PUBLIC RANGE.
THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE NAME FROM PUBLIC TO PRIVATE AND SAY UP FRONT THAT THEY DON’T ALLOW VISITORS TO SEE THE RANGE.
NO one is allowed but members and to be a member you must buy into a “pig in a poke.”
I am notifing the NRA “which I am a member of”, the State of TN, Michael Chase, and anyone else I can think of.
