Very nice facility especially if you’re in an RV. The RV sites were nice and level, full hookups, and some had hard surface parking. Lots of Trap houses if that’s what you’re in to, some skeet houses, and 2 Sporting Clays courses. Sporting is what I shot a couple of times while we were there. Fields were well manicured and traps worked well for the most part. I’d certainly stay and shoot there again!

Without a doubt, the finest shooting facility I’ve ever seen.
I’m a Cowboy Action Shooter and the range is superb.
The facility staff has a continuous presence for any problem that might occur.

The range hosts the Midwest Classic, The Illinois State Championship and the US Open.
    This is a must do.

Yes, it is undoubtedly hot in the summer, but what a fantastic facility. My wife and I arrived during a competition, yet the staff went out of their way to explain things and make us welcome. We purchased ammo and had our own practice field – with staff person nearby in case we had questions or problems.

We have already decided that we will return – and perhaps even visit the Grand next year. If you are anywhere near Sparta, make plans to visit this world class facility.

The world shooting complex is an amazing feat of engineering with the 120 traps lined up precisioned in a straight line from end to end.

With the technology that “man” has, i know that it is possible to plant a sufficient quantity of shade trees along and around the entire complex. With the heat index during one of my visits there, the temp.
was over 110 degrees with shooters passing out and dropping like flies.

This is not acceptable with the – like i said “technology that we have today”. Please look into this issue – plant more trees, trees, trees, tress !!!!!!

Bring a tent. Why in the world would the build this huge facility in the middle of NOWHERE. One hotel, not enough rooms. No place to stay. Be prepared to drive in from St. Louis (50 mi. 1 way) every night. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

HUGE! Very hot when we were there (July) No shade trees! They need to plant some trees!
Everything is new and nice. Poured concrete walls between skeet fields instead of the typical wood fence resulting huge echo while shooting skeet. Everyone needs to see it.

This is the biggest public shooting facility I have ever seen. The two sporting clays courses offer some challenges. It is a brand new facility with new equipment.

Three and one half miles of trap!!! Skeet also. The main lodge features a restaurant, 17th Street Bar & Grill, which has some of the best bar-b-que I have ever had.

There are two sporting clays courses, 12 stations each. Each course is laid out in a ring, with all shooting toward the center. The north course is a bit harder than the south, due mostly to some longer crossers. Definitely a challenge the day I was there, with lots of opportunity to crank up the difficulty for tournaments.

The terrain is still pretty desolate, as the whole complex is built on abandoned mining ground. There’s no shade, so plan accordingly.

Man, this place is huge! The trap and skeet fields are extremely well kept and personnel are friendly and helpful. Sporting Clays is still so new that I don’t think they have all the target presentations worked out yet. It was very difficult and I usually post pretty good scores at other facilities. Also a lot of mud and dirt at the Sporting Clays (it’s new). One day it will be primo. The whole facility is amazing! It’s worth a look! I’ll bet an organized shoot here is a blast!
